Hardly doom and gloom when people are saying the future looks bright. A tour to Australia always sorts out the wheat from the chaff though.

He had a nice comeback in the SA odi's. I hope he builds on that and becomes test match fit in the coming years.

We should have really had him ready for this series. You need bowlers with pace for the wickets in Aus.

Yup, no more 130k trundlers. We need serious threat in our bowling. Although if the 130k trundlers can get it right and bowl line and length consistently (dougeh) with a captain who isn't too erratic, we're still a good side. We failed to do that for much of the series.

I don't even think he's anywhere near being test match fit right now so the Australian series would have been impossible for him. He's really the cricket equivalent of Daniel Sturridge. Lad just can't stay uninjured for his own life. Milne should really try to emulate the likes of a steyn, lee or Johnson who've bowled fast for so long while staying fit. Those guys always appear to the be type who put in the extra mile to make sure they prevent injury and stay strong.

How come your own countrymen including experienced test players roundly condemned him then? A huge mark on the bat indicative of a big top edge, evident in the front on hotspot shots, ball deviation in super slo-mo. He couldn't see instantly that the footage for the lbw tracking was from a different delivery....you say that's not wrong???
Snicko would have been the icing on the cake...it didn't even register when the ball hit Lyons shoulder. And the wrong footage for the lbw tracking. Llong's a muppet but Channel 9 disgraceful as well. DRS shown up, Indians rightly suspicious.

It was a howler but it is what it is. S**t happens. NZ still had enough time and chance in the game after that to do damage control. They failed, they paid the price.

Hear, hear. I'm over the cult of personality around Baz. His much vaunted proactive captaincy - frenetic field changes - was ridiculed from day 1 by the Aussies, his use of reviews was terrible, he backed Craig to the hilt and beyond and it didn't come off, his own batting was weak.

Series ratings:
Warner 9 - unstoppable early on, 3 tons in his first 3 innings culminating with a double is a very good look roads or no roads. Didn't look so comfortable at Adelaide, but his second innings was actually important - had the runs been slower the game would've been very close.
Burns 6 - scored runs at Brisbane and made some important contributions but struggled otherwise. I'm skeptical of his long-term longetivity as an opener, especially given his struggles on the one bowler-friendly surfaces. He also looked pretty poor at bat-pad.
Khawaja 9.5 - injury was annoying and yes they were on roads but two tons in his two proper innings is a very good sign and in general looked very good. Have we finally resolved our #3 issue?
Smith 7 - played some very odd shots at times, as if he felt he was untouchable. Played a very important knock second innings Perth where there was a geniune opportunity to score runs and make an influence on the match.
Voges 7.5 - again a good knock at Perth, and while it wasn't in the toughest conditions hit runs at Brisbane. Again struggled with more bowler friendly conditions at Adelaide, but his starts actually had a bit of influence.
M Marsh 6 - didn't really do a hell lot with the bat, though in his defence he was often on a hiding to nothing with it. He played a very crucial role with the ball for mine, making crucial breakthroughs and getting it in good areas and looking threatening.
Nevill 7 - kept well and played a very important knock at Adelaide. The keeping slot is in good hands.
Johnson 3 - I'd have been interested to see how he would've gone if he played at Adelaide, but unfortunately looked really hittable at times during the series and had lost a yard in pace. Probably made the right move to retire.
Starc 8 - pick of the bowlers. His spell at Perth was something to behold and he would've been scary under lights if his ankle didn't give away. Also made some heavy blows with the bat, particularly at Adelaide.
Hazlewood 7 - struggled a bit on the roads that made up Brisbane and Perth, though still bowled some good spells IMO and seemed to be victim of a deliberately agressive approach from New Zealand. That second innings at Adelaide was one of the spells of the year IMO, bowled absoutely beautifully.
Lyon 6 - at times he seemed guilty of bowling the wrong line, but did look dangerous when he got it right. Not really super influential but was far from bad.
S Marsh 6 - give him credit, his second innings was pretty important and was pretty fluent. Things may have looked a lot different had he gotten out early.
Siddle 4 - seemed pretty ordinary in his one Test, I'm afraid. Did hit 200 wickets and the winning runs though. Not really sure if he's in Australia's best attack any more but will get a series to prove me wrong.
Guptill 2 - only real contribution was eating up time at Brisbane but even there he didn't really score runs. Surely it's time to move on?
Latham 5 - made a lot of starts and looked pretty good in doing so but was prone to throwing it away too much and getting bogged down.
Williamson 8.5 - his first innings at Brisbane was one of the innings of the year, especially given how quickly he was scoring runs. Generally looked in awesome form throughout but failed slightly at Adelaide (like a lot of other bats admittedly, but still....)
Taylor 8 - played great at Perth, but didn't do a lot otherwise. Thankfully for New Zealand his issues that were causing a trough of form have been fixed.
McCullum 4 - pretty weak. Only one innings of significance and even then it came when defeat looked imminent. Also didn't adapt very well when he was pressed as captain and his tactics were often baffling.
Neesham 1 - should stick to Twitter. Looked pretty useless in his one Test.
Watling 4 - had a tough time with the bat and dropped a couple of catches with the gloves. A rare bad series from Watling.
Craig 3.5 - most of his wickets were basically gimmies and too often failed to contain well and gave Australia easy runs. Only time he really looked threatening was during a phase after lunch at Perth. His batting wasn't much to write home about either, and was way too happy to slog when he had the game to eat up time at the crease.
Bracewell 6 - actually bowled pretty well despite some ordinary figures, keeping it tight and asking questions. He also got better as the series went on and bowled very well at Adelaide. Shouldn't have been batting 7 but at least he knows what defence is.
Southee 7 - had the worst stats out of the Kiwi frontline bowlers, but despite this he looked the most consistently dangerous bowler for New Zealand by a fair distance and one of the few not to bowl consistent pies given some of the high scores. Deserved more but bowled a bit too short when there was the chance to get rewards for his labor.
Boult 5 - just looked off colour too much. Bowled some very dangerous spells at times (often with the new ball), but in between just bowled floaty ****. Only looked consistently dangerous in the last innings of Adelaide. The series would've looked far more interesting if he was 100% match-fit.
Henry 3 - when given some swing to work with actually looked pretty good but by that point the match was too far gone. Didn't have enough accuracy to keep it tight on an admittedly flat wicket.
Santner 6 - he has a big future. Looked very assured with the bat and kept it tight with the ball.
