***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2008/09

Pup Clarke

Cricketer Of The Year
Redmond perhaps a tad harshly treated by the selctors?

Especially seeing as he scored runs in the last test match he played, surely with not many other outstanding candidates he could of been given another series?

Howsie

International Captain
I think Redmond should still be in the team, he looked as though he was starting to get some confindence and was playing shots.

So adding Redmond seemed pointless.

I still say George Worker will come good in a season or two's time. He will surely open for us one day.

tbh Redmond's 80-odd against Australia was one of my favourite memories of the summer, it was so random, he played some awesome shots.

I'm just about ready for Pinga itbt.

My mind control is working.

Thought Redmond was always solid myself. Never looked useless like others we've picked, just played dumb shots once he got to 20.

Before he got to 20 TBH.

Redmond scores, he started off with a bang:

0, 17, 28, 6, 1, 2, 19, 79, 2, 30*, 3, 10, 83, 19

It's just odd that Flem hasn't mentioned anything about the Central runchase yesterday. Do you support them or not?

Haven't checked the scorecard. Will be back to gloat/cry in five.

EDIT: Two Taranaki players and one other born there (How) in the runs. Awesome. Did it without Sinclair and Oram too. And our U-19 prospect scored some runs.

How and Pinga in a face off for McIntoshs place. Bet How gets it.

Oram caught off the bowling of Ellis=good idea he's not playing the tests.

CD for the championship.

It took you more than 12 hours to realise they'd won?

Clayton's fan, IMO.
Claytons fan?

Haven't followed this round past the second day heaviliy, you caught me.

Will definitely be drooling over the next two though. Hope some test players are able to make the final.

Kane Williamson, who is still 18, is averaging 42.00 in FC cricket.

This bloke is going to be special if managed properly.

I reckon Daniel Flynn might end up as a good opener. He seems to have the opener's mentality, a bit of grit, and doesnt give his wicket away. Bit of a Justin Langer type. After a few years of international cricket, if nobody else makes the grade, he could be a chance. Guptill is our best bet for now IMO.

Of course you do, along with Rob Nicol eh?

Sorry to sound 12, but middle order converts haven't helped us in the past. Vincent, a middle order batsman, may have been the best, but that didn't mean he was any good at it. We have a new generation of openers now, they deserve their chance if they earn it. No need to risk ruining a potentially very good number three.

Richardson was a lower middle order convert.

Flynns practically an opener anyway, how often does he not come out in the first couple bloody overs?

Wouldn't mind him opening up with Guptill, the number 3 spot would be easier to fill than the void that is New Zealands openers.

Richardson was a freak.

Look, instead of looking for nice instant solutions that will probably fail (Fulton, Fleming, both Marshalls, need I go on?) lets give the new generation a chance eh? Flynn hasn't even settled into tests yet ffs, he isn't even a proven number 3 yet, give the guy some time. If Worker, Brodie, How, Watling, etc can't be better openers than Flynn, then I will go on a murderous rampage.

If we're going to make a middle order convert an opener, if we become that desperate again, it should be a senior player like Vettori or McCullum. Hell I'd have Ryder over Flynn, he's at least opened in ODIs.

And if anyone suggests making Hay open I will kill them.

Athlai

Wasn't suggesting to do it now. Believe the point was this was to happen a few years from now if no one else had stepped up.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Yeah we could probably take the 8th in line from Australia/England/South Africa/India and still completely have a better opener than McIntosh
