Yip. Totally agree with the NPC sentiments here. So much more interesting than the Super 14! I find it much easier to get behind an NPC team than the plastic-fantastic franchises. Who are the Hurricanes anyway?Totally agree with the NPC call, provincial is so gun. Would way rather watch Southland than the Highlanders, any day of the week. Esp. now I've got a media pass![]()
If you want even coverage of international events, watch an international channel such as CNN or BBC World. As I said before, we're in the middle of the Tri Nations and - like it or not - more people in NZ care about the All Blacks than the England v South Africa test match.I myself would consider actual results to be more important than a rugby story which has been stretched out to 2 minutes when it could have just been 30 seconds. eg. Richie McCaw is recovering - they say that in the first 10 seconds and then get about 20 more peoples opinions wasting time. They then skim the more important news stories (actual games with actual results) such as international golf recently, hardly anything on the cricket it is not worthwhile watching the news sports section anymore. Instead I watch the crowd goes wild with Mark Richardson. Anybody else watch that?
I actually study journalism and news 'worthiness'. I'm not going to say no rugby news at all when there are no games but it should be shorter and get the point more promtly. I do not think New Zealands media provide a wide enough coverage of anything other than rugby and that is all that I will say.If you want even coverage of international events, watch an international channel such as CNN or BBC World. If you are incapable of understanding newsworthiness, there's not much any of us can do about it.
Comparable. There is a similar level of hype in terms of scale, every 'bad' thing that an All Black does is blown out of all proportion by all media outlets (rather than just the tabloids). I'm not sure I've seen any stories about Dan Carter's metatarsal yet; and obviously the media hype about the All Blacks isn't so misplaced as the English media hype about their football team, but certainly comparableSerious question - someone like Heath who has spent time over here might be able to answer - but is the NZ Rugby team bigger in NZ than the English football team is over here?

Tbh, I'm not into rugby that much at all. The All Blacks being decent at rugby is something to be proud of I guess, and a source of patriotism and pride. I just think we have more going on.I wouldn't take it personally. Here's a quote from Mark Ella:
"In a small country with a depressed economy like New Zealand's, they cling to things like having the world's No 1 rugby team." - Mark Ella 'Path to Victory' p 63
Are you getting into a Bledisloe mood NZTailender?
Media houses are under no obligation to cater to the minority, no matter how many paranoid, out of touch with reality, people try to push said obligation onto them. Reporting is just a business, give the masses what they want, and they'll gobble it up. Simple marketing under the guise of a vicious cycle, really.I actually study journalism and news 'worthiness'. I'm half working you up. I know that there needs to be it because there is a large audience. Just annoys me is all.
Yeah and as that's what the majority of Melbourne wants, that's what they should be doing. Same thing in NZ I'm guessing. You're half working me up because - for a journalism student - you're displaying a breathtaking naivete of media. Before you launch into the shortcomings of the NZ media (and biting the hand that'll later feed you), take a look at Melbourne papers. I was there in November - well after the AFL season had finished - and the wall-to-wall coverage was still throughout most papers.
Try telling them you prefer league and then see how they react.I dislike it when people tell me I'm a traitor and not a true NZer, and am also a wussy homosexual when I say I don't like Rugby.
