I broke a record that stood for over 75 years.
Less than 3 months later, alas, someone broke my record .

Who am I ?
Whose record did I break at the time ?
Who broke my record ?

01. Is it a batting record? Yes
02. Are you proud of the record ? Not thrilled about it, somewhat perhaps
03. Is it a world record ? Yes
04. Is it a record for total of runs scored (as against 50's, 100's, strike rate, average etc) Yes
05. Is it a test record ? Yes
06. Were I, and the person who broke my record, both left handers ? Yes
07. Is it related to debuts? No
08. Is it a record made by runs scored in an innings ? No
09. Is it a career record ? No

Has it to do with passive batting (speed of scoring, lack of boundaries etc) ?

Not necessarily

Clue : The 3 cricketers came from 3 different countries, the matches involved 6 different countries spanning 5 continents

Is it anything to do with runs in a losing cause?
Bingo !

In 1924/5, Herbert Sutcliffe scored 176 and 127 (303 runs) vs Australia, the most number of runs in a losing cause.

In Sept/2001, Andy Flower scored 142 and 199* (341 runs) in a loss to S.Africa to beat Sutcliffes record.

In Nov/2001, Brian Lara scored 221 and 130 (351 runs) in a loss to S.Lanka exceeding AFlower’s record within a few months.

Well done. I suspect Tapioca knew this as well with his question.
