  • Not surprisingly, that's also how it behaved. At a slow pace- all in the 110's or 120's- there was excessive movement with the ball going around in curves.
Is there anyone playing Indian domestic cricket who is currently not in the India squad, with the exception of Munaf Patel (at times) that bowls above that pace?

Agarkar. VRV (who in 2005 was supposed to be the fastest in the country). Pre-injury Nehra but he seems to have dropped completely out of sight. All of there are/were/can be at 140 kmph/

Possibly Ishant Sharma?

Anyone know how fast Acishkar Salvi got to? Another out-of-sighter now.

Quite happy that Dravid has found some decent form in the Karnataka v Mumbai match scoring a double hundred.

Whatever it takes!!!
A mention about Badrinath here. Amazing show of commitment from the TN skipper coming in even though he was down with food poisoning to make sure TN salvaged points from this match and didn't concede a first innings lead (you only get it when both first innings are completed). Rain made sure only 2 and a half days play was possible and TN were in real danger when Badri walked in and played as fluently as anyone down with food poisoning fever and stuff can to score 72. He had to retire hurt ultimately and was on drips for the whole evening after that, but there can be little doubt that he had shown amazing character and had achieved what was extremely important for the side, making sure they didn't lose any points. DK also batted well for 56 but got out at an important stage. He did come back as runner for Badri when he was on 30 odd... Also seemed decent skippering the side in the absence of Badri when TN were bowling.

Elsewhere, Goa wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra scored over 80 to help his team win their match against the team that dropped him, Haryana. Their new wicketkeeper, Sandeep Singh, didn't score much. A costly mistake, maybe? Joginder didn't score much and picked up just four wickets.

One thing is certain- post the ICL defections, the Ranji lineups look a lot thinner. Your opinion?

Mumbai do well against TN, restricting them for 206...

DK does well again, this time opening... 79 off just a 108... But looks like he got out again at the wrong time...

Mumbai blow TN away with Powar taking five, nine in the match, then Prashant Naik smashing a run-a-ball-plus fifty.

Baroda win against Bengal, a match for Yusuf Pathan to remember. He took ten wickets (five in each innings) and also scored 183 at more than a run a ball.

And what match do we have to watch? Hyderabad against Punjab- full of misfields, a few running-betwee-the-wickets errors, slow-medium seam bowling, duh!

Some stuff I picked up from the Second Round Ranji wrap-

Sanjay Bangar's blog...worth a read

BCCI has no website, but Baroda Cricket Board has one!

My broadband account switches off and this thread is pushed back. Down for two weeks, I had nothing to get any updates here. I couldn't get any domestic action, even from the interesting Baroda v/s UP match. I don't expect any domestic action now on NEO, with the Test match on.

yes... but apart from Gambhir and Chopra tonning up for Delhi, I don't think much has happened....

Anyways, it just seems fruitless to follow the progress of middle order guys like Badri, Raina etc... given that we already have 5 in our side at the moment...

There have been a few other developments, such as the matches involving Mumbai and the match between Baroda and UP. Mumbai has struggled, but somehow pulled through each time. Yusuf Pathan continues his great form with bat and ball, but faced a huge obstacle in the Punjab batting side. Rajat Bhatia took five wickets for not too many, which shows how relevant a batsman can be when replacing a stock bowler- something for two Indian batsmen to apply. Surprises have been sprung up by the newly-promoted, stereotypically weak Orissa team. And of course, Pankaj Singh- a tall, muscular and match-fit seamer- continues taking wickets regularly, this time against the winners of last season's Ranji Trophy. Actually, there's a lot more action in Plate than Elite, but it is always ignored.

As for Badri and Raina not making the team, you have a very powerful middle-order with Badri, Raina and Sharma with Tewary in reserve, and old stalwarts Niraj Patel and Amol Mazumdar can't be counted out. So you can put together not one, not two, but three middle-orders, and get more for limited-overs matches by adding Mithun Manhas (why can't he get a national call-up?) and Mohammed Kaif in the mix.

Unfortunately, none of the most prolific batsmen, when called on to bowl, can last more than 20 overs of a Test innings. That makes the likes of Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Nayar and SRK Vidyut (even Joginder Sharma, doing nothing of note now) and also Rajat Bhatia (after a long time) relevant.

I haven't seen the matches of late, but we can put together six domestic fielding teams from this scene that would still field better than those six assemblies dropping catches, misfielding, throwing wayward and mis-collecting in ICL. They're supposedly better fielders than the players in the domestic scene.

not sure abt the ICL comment there.. It was evident that most of the ICL roster had players who were not exactly at their primes....

ICL was hyped by the media, particularly DNA, a Zee-owned newspaper in Mumbai, as a league whose fielding standards are way above those in the Indian domestic scene. Then the commentators (frontline marketing managers?) say the same thing. We saw something else.

well, yeah, this is business and you should expect them to try and put over their product as being something better than what it actually is...

It s sad though that a great sport has come down to a proper business.... :(

ICL

Have been a bit sick for the past couple of days which means that I am stranded at home. Was watching the highlights of a game a bit back and am looking forward to watching Chandigarh v Delhi semi which will start soon. The broadcasting standards are very high and the cricket being played isn't bad too. Looking forward to some good cricket.

Good swing being generated by Tuffey and Hall which means that the batsmen are a bit clueless.
