While out walking the dog, I started considering the possibility of playing cricket on the moon, and what it would be like. Here is what I came up with:
Anything else? Thoughts?
- No overcast conditions or cloud cover, and absolutely no moisture. Unlikely for the ball to swing.
- You would be more likely to find grass on a flat Pakistani wicket after an Indian nuclear strike than on the moon.
- However, since the pitch wouldn't have been rained on for millions of years, it might have some pretty monstrous cracks.
- It also might be conductive to spin, considering how dry and crumbly the pitch is likely to be.
- The outfield might be grassless but it could also be pretty rocky. Would the ball be cut to pieces or lose its shine within a few overs?
- Gravity would be extremely low. If you even brush the ball it's probably heading for the boundary. It would be easy to hit incredibly huge sixes at will.
- This might also lead to some incredible catches. Fielders could leap six feet into the air and take a wicket. Would also be pretty hard to drop a catch.
