Yeah i guess it was inevitable and better now than late in the regular season but it still sucks...

Mavs are 6-1 and second in the league. The best part for me is that this is not a team hard carried by Luka. Luka was extraordinary in the first 3 games but since has been very up and down, especially with the turnovers. However, Kyrie has basically taken over half of Luka’s facilitation duties, Grant Williams is playing out of his mind on both ends and Lively looks like a steal and the 3rd best player of the draft. Even Hardaway is killing it as a near 20 ppg guy from the bench.

Last season, by Jan, our W/L record was almost spookily split 50:50 by games Luka had 30+ and did not. This year we are cruising in games where he can’t make 20 due to so many players stepping up.

If we can defend in the first half like we are doing in the second and we don’t have serious injuries to the above core guys, this is a dark horse contender team.

Lastly, the silver lining to Luka not playing at 100% is that he is shooting more 3s than ever (10.1) which is the second in the league after Steph which is actually great for now because he’s shooting them at 41% so far. Early days but I really hope it’s a long term improvement to his shooting and he can at least hit 37-38% this season.

Yeah, this is what will define your season in the end. Fwiw, I love watching Kyrie and Luka when they're on

Dropping a couple, yes...but just like we are on a roll now, it's not that difficult to get into a rut. And yes, the bolded is a big worry.

The aim should be a good seed and a healthy team come playoffs, just like last season

Luka and Kyrie in the last 2 games have averaged just 29 minutes each of playing time and have made an average combined 68 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds per game with combined shooting splits of 63/60/92 on 20 three attempts per game and a combined true shooting % above 80%.

Mavs are now 8-2 with Luka averaging only 32 min per game due to Kyrie who is sharing the play making load, already having 2 10 assist games in the season and now getting back to his shooting grove.

Things are looking up. :thumbup:
