Interesting three years down the track and A-League has started bringing back Socceroos and a large percentage of overseas based players. But its seems like the A-League has just hit niche of mainly die hard football fans who majority supported the NSL anyway.

I wonder how many new fans have really come on board to the A-League who weren't Football fans to start off with. Just get the feeling that the A-League is going down the same path as NBL, with a niche following that will keep it a float and never really expand.

It was probably unrealistic to ever expect it to complete with the AFL or NRL. But it is surprising to me how quickly it levelled out and stop growing in support.

One interesting sign is how quickly the bandwagon support came for Sydney and Melbourne when they were winning and how quickly it dropped off as well.

Will be interesting to see the development in the league over the next couple seasons. I'm not sure how much longer they can keep saying no to a youth league, especially when you look at some of poor U17s and U20s results.

Also after the saga that was Aloisi and Elrich signings they probably need to look at expanding the salary cap. Its so stupid when a players want to take a cut to come home, four clubs want him, but no one can fit him under the salary cap unless they cut 2-3 players. Also the fact that none of clubs have a full roster of registered players, also say something about the salary cap.

Hurry and sign him before he changes his mind tbh.

In other news, loving how the Roar are playing this season. Zullo & Kruse are having fantastic debut seasons, and can only get better, so I'm loving it.

Can't see how we can afford him. We could barely afford Guus for six months. Let alone someone with a similar or higher wage for 3 years.

Oh FFS hate the Jets, Covic & Griffiths are absolute tossers, stop saving/scoring ****ing goals you bastards.

Also, go home Simon Lynch, send us back someone from Scotland who can actually score effing goals

TBF to Lynch no striker at Roar has ever been able to score goals. Probably should be looking at the midfield first before the strikers. One day they got to learn what is referred to as a measured attack, rather then just go guns blazing every match.

The thing with Lynch is, he's only scored 5 goals in 28 appearances, 2 of those goals coming in 1 match, and 1 of those was a penalty. Reinaldo's record isn't all that much better, but he still performs a role for the team as a target man.

Well Roar have had a fair few guys who most of their careers have been prolific scorers but have hardly scored a goal for Roar. The lost include Brosque, Lynch, Reinaldo and Ante. Four strikers who for most of their career have got good goal scoring records and all four have hardly scored goals for Roar. If it was only one striker who wasn't scoring goals then fair enough, but when pretty much all the strikers haven't scored goals. It is time to look at midfield not the strikers.

Obviously nothing remotely concrete and probably just a tactical move to improve his contract with Russia, but still if there's any chance at all.... Get. In. There.

Brosque was one of the top 3 scorers in the league in his season at the Roar, and Ante has been a regular goal scorer when he hasn't been injured (which has also been a regular occurrence in the past 2 seasons). Reinaldo, as i said, hasn't scored all that regularly, but he does play another role as a target man to hold up the ball. Also, I think his lack of goals can largely be attributed to poor striking of the ball. He receives good enough service from the midfield, but so often he screws up perfect opportunities with wild shots. Lynch, on the other hand, gets just as good as ball as Reinaldo, but has scored less goals, and doesn't play the role of a target man like Reinaldo can, or does...

    AWTA

Read in the Courier Mail today that they're looking at Gabriel Bastituta (sp?) the former Argentine striker, as a head coach option.

    Hmm. Brave man, Guus.

Interesting - was always a fan of Batigol in his playing days but didn't know he'd gotten into the coaching lark. Who, if anyone, is he working with at the moment?
