Signups
![]() I've done something along the lines of this on another forum where people sign up as tennis players and are entered into the main draws of the various real life competitions around the world. It works for a bit but then I get to the point of having to do rankings and it ****s me over completely. So what I've decided to do is give it a whirl on here with a completely fictional tennis world (though keeping pretty much the same tournaments) and going from the start of 2009. Basically you'll get to choose which warm up events you want to compete in throughout the year before we head to the four opens. Note all the results are done by a very simple dice formula - so it isn't very intensive labour-wise. What I need from you fellas is your representative in the 'game' and ten random names to represent players around the world. I'll decide where they sit (through number generator), but try and make them pretty diverse yet realistic (so we'll keep the number of Kenyan tennis players to a minimum, OK?). The form is: Name: (doesn't HAVE to be your own, but don't make it really stupid) Nationality: Date of birth: Right or left-handed: Signature court (pick ONE): Hard Grass Clay Indoor Short biography of person and style: It's all done by dice, so here is my form as an example. Name: Roy "Rock" Daniels Nationality: American Date of birth: 13 May, 1984 Right or left-handed: Right Signature court (pick ONE): Hard Short biography of person and style: Daniels is a fiery hard-court specialist with a big serve and a powerful forehand. "Rock" is known to get under his opponent's skin and is a bit of a showboater, but tends to fall apart at the seams in clay court tennis. A real media personality, Daniels will be hoping to prove himself throughout the season as a real all-courter. Ten names: Randy Bruce - USA - 26 Fernando Aguero - ESP - 22 Maarten Bak - DAN - 24 Sébastien Lachance - FRA - 32 Rory Cross - CAN - 28 Adam Murray - AUS - 20 Kiyoto Osaka - JPN - 25 Max Eisenhauer - GER - 31 Scott Whitehouse - ENG - 30 Sebastian Moss - ENG - 26 If we get enough signups, hopefully we can quickly get cracking. Cheers.

Name: Jefferson Drake
Nationality: Belarusian Date of birth: 14/7/1986 Right or left-handed: Right Signature court: Grass Short biography of person and style: Jefferson Drake is the classic enigma. Young and talented but frivilous and fiery, he floats in and out of matches and even tournaments like a helium balloon in a multi-storey car park. A grass court specialist with loads of talent, the kid hopes to one day win Wimbledon and fullfill his dream from his childhood. Either that or win the Lotto.

Name: Rob "The Lob" Bowenburg

He is an easy going sort of bloke who is very committed to his tennis. Bowenburg hates the clay surface and loves nothing more then brutwurst and is an avid trainspotter. Name: Heef Davies
Nationality: NZL Date of birth: 01/01/88 Right or left-handed: Right Signature court (pick ONE): Hard Short biography of person and style: Heef was born under a bad sign. An incredibly grumpy tennis player, he has been known to throw up over an umpire as a result of a contentious decision. Since the rollout of Hawkeye, these events have decreased in their frequency, but he has still been known to soil his undergarments at the shrill high pitched BLEEEEPPP! of Cyclops when he hits a serve long. Name: Randy Smeltz
Nationality: German Date of birth: 1st March 1981 Right or left-handed: Right Signature court (pick ONE): Clay Short biography of person and style: Randy comes from a poverty stricken village on the outskirts of Braunschweig in Germany. He grew up eating only what he could catch and drinking rain water. Although not the smartest player on the tour he works hard on his game and his on court smell can scare off opponents. He has a massive forehand and a big serve, relishes big matches particularly Davis Cup on the red clay in Berlin. Usually doesn't bother turning up to grass court events, only plays Wimbledon to get a feed. Once threw a deat rat at the chair umpire after a first round loss at the Adelaide International. Not a bad idea. Could help with the rankings as well.
Name: Sven Oxenstierna Nationality: SWE Date of birth: 22/04/1984 Right-handed Clay court specialist Short biography: Oxenstierna was born in the city hospital of Hannover nine months after a hot and fiery affair between a Båstad nobleman and a WTA tour player. After years of wrangling over the child, the tennis-playing mother solved the legal wrangle by running amuck during a tournament in Ulaanbataar after an overdose of orange juice, thus losing all rights to care for the child. Oxenstierna sr. took Sven in, vowing that a) Sven should never drink orange juice again and b) Sven would get a heavier serve than his mother. So far, only a) has held true, and thus Oxenstierna remains a rather dull clay-court specialist who can run up any ball yet is prone to give away 5-2 leads on his own serve. Names: Niko Ulemek - CRO - 26 Stipo Vučemilović - CRO - 27 Lari Färkkilä - FIN - 24 Tom Vollan - NOR - 29 Marzio Claverini - BRA - 25 Li Ming-Wang - TPE - 28 Eric Henson - USA - 28 David Lebègue - FRA - 22 Takis Georgilas - CYP - 27 Sipko Wetzel - NED - 32

Name: Ryan "Ranga" Fredericks
Nationality: Australian Date of Birth: 1st April 1988 Right or left handed: Left Signature court: Clay Short biography of person and style: Ryan Fredericks also know as "ranga" is a red headed individual who likes nothing more than having long drawn out matches on clay. He grew up in outback Australia and had to walk 10km to and from school everyday. He is therefore one of the fittest players on tour and spends most of his free time working out in the gym as well as working on his game. Although generally quite a shy, quiet bloke, he can have unexpected outbursts during a match when things aren't quite going his way. Cheers fellas, that could come in handy.
Not quite sure how I'll start the rankings for the season. I was thinking I'll either do: a). Use the points scored in 2007 and relate them to random people (problem is I can't find these points); or b). Start the points system from scratch. Kinda leaning towards option 2. |
