My objection is him gaining an academy place, which of course means that the intentions are there to bring him in to the team in the future...
If he learns this winter, then yes.

I am very sceptical that a winter at the academy can take a poor bits and pieces player, to an international performer..

Erm, Flintoff?

You posed a question. I answered it. I didn't think that would be too hard to figure out
That would be a first.

I have asked you plenty of questions you haven't been bothered to answer.

How many chances are Paul Collingwood and Simon Jones going to get before the selectors finally realise they are not up to it???
collingwood not upto it? where did you come up with that from?
he shouldnt be in the 16 for SA yes but if you came to the conclusion that collingwood was not good enough from 2 games in SL where he happened to play a crucial role in saving both tests, then you must be out of your mind.

If you look at it series by series you can see that Jones has never been successful against any team.

And in county cricket he is far from being Glamorgan's most successful bowler.
interesting comment that.....im assuming you were saying the same thing about harmison, who after 9 tests was also averaging 37?
im also curious to know about what harmison was doing in county cricket at that time?
and if you ask me simon jones has shown more potential than what harmison showed after his first 9 tests so that says something.....and his bowling performance against NZ at lords was instrumental in englands victory in that match....i dont remember harmison doing anything of the sort.
its interesting that you look at his performance against australia....7 overs was what he bowled, and he was the first person to take a wicket too. clearly suggesting that he should be dropped.
basically what it comes down to is that if we had a selector like you in the panel, we would be without harmison, and what a wise move that would have been!

Ideally, I'd have both in at the expense of Key, but that would mean a 17-man squad.
who despite scoring a match winning 93 and batting through till the end at old trafford in the toughest batting conditions in the entire series must clearly be dropped!

His figures are better than Simon Jones
yea a whole 2 runs better.....interestingly enough that had more to do with the fact that he played 1 test against bangladesh....in the series against NZ he averaged 46, which is far worse than both simon jones' career average as well as his average in the same series.

3 matches is not really enough to write a player off
yet you can write off collingwood after 2 games.

and he took a wicket with his first ball in England and is a proven wicket taker in county cricket.
because thats what matters! take a look at the list of players who have taken a wicket with their first ball and see how many of them were actually regular players for their country.

I disagree - that would totally disrupt the balance of the side.
really?so explain to me why it is that australia are the best team in the world despite not having an all rounder?
clarke isnt good enough at the moment, just because he can apparently bat and bowl in county cricket it doesnt mean that he should immediately be flintoff's understudy and make every england side thereafter.

Because Australia don't need the 5th bowling option. England do, and the only way to get it is to have Flintoff as number 6.

and clarke with his brilliant bowling abilities is doing just that isnt he?
no i would rather have a specialist bowler or batsman instead of someone who has shown absolutely no potential at either skill
