I wouldn't have given Ishant the new ball. Had a couple of average matches against SA and Umesh and Shami are in great form. Ishant should be coming on first change.

    Wide-friendly?

Ishant perhaps a bit too wide these first couple of overs

But the new ball bowling has been good. Shadman and Kayes just need to hang in there

    Shakib's figures are weirdly unqualified.

It's pretty batting friendly as a general rule; they just don't tend to pick the batsmen who score lots of runs in it.

Mosaddek Hossain averages 57 (and I think over 60 if we're just talking Bangladesh domestics and not Tests/A games), Yasir Ali averages 49, Anamul averages 45, Tushar averages 43 but probably averages high 50s in the last ten years or so, Tamim averages 42 but actually averages 50 if you exclude his Tests, etc.

There's also the fact that Bangladesh A play a lot of matches, and generally don't do very well, so these FC averages aren't really just domestic averages per se. There are a lot of Bangladesh A games and Tests baked into them where they can obviously all fail with bat and ball.

Good ball by Umesh. Kayes caught at 3rd slip.

I'd absolutely love to see him get a shot at Tests.

It's a really weird scenario where the selectors are basically saying "when you were a kid we thought you were going to be gun, so even though you hadn't scored heaps of runs in domestic cricket and were terribad in 50 over cricket we picked you in a bunch of ODIs, and you failed in those, so now we have no faith in your ability to to average 30 in Tests even though you've consistently been the first FC batsman in the country for a decade".

If they gave him a couple of series and he failed then fine, but he's only played five Tests, and only two in the last 15 years. Abolsutely none in the last 12, which is pretty crazy for someone who has not only dominated their domestic setup but also someone who they actually expected to be one of their best ever batsmen at one point. Their whole selection philosophy is pretty whack for batsmen IMO. Their domestic competition is less worthless than they think at this point.

Eh he's probably gonna be picked for one Test in 2026 but he really should be picked now. Just ridiculous really.

That just seems blatantly absurd logic from the selectors that Tushar could have a career like that. I too would absolutely love to see him get a chance, but the odds do seem pretty remote

I've never seen the new ball darting around for the quicks in India as much as it's done for the last couple of matches. Not sure whether it's the weather this time of the year, or the pitches, or they've changed the ball a bit, or our fast bowlers have just got better.

Rahane drops one, tough chance TBF.

EDIT: Turns out it wasn't a catch

All the 4 batsmen so far have started by playing out a maiden. How common is that?

On Indore as a test venue. Cricket gets lot of love from Indore. Also, it is the best place in the universe. Just love the laid back, cordial, unrushed atmosphere of the town with exemplary cleanliness to boot. And yes, I am from there.
