    ODI quality control draft

I did one of these for tests a while back, proved to be quite fun. I've tinkered with some rules to make it work better. Apologies for the extensive detail.

It's an ODI draft with a bunch of restrictions in place. You will be picking 5 specialist bats, 3 specialist bowlers, 2 all-rounders and a keeper. It's minimum 20 matches to be eligible.

The 5 specialist batsmen have to bat in the top 7. The keeper is basically a batsman with regards to the rules, but he only has to bat in the top 8. He also has to have kept in at least 20% of his ODI games. Our 2 All rounders also need to bat top 8, and your bowlers have to bat 9-11.

Both your two all rounders need a minimum wicket to match ratio of 1:2 and one of them needs one of 3:4. The three specialist bowlers need one of at least 4:5 eg 80 wickets per 100 matches. If more than 5 players meet this criteria, the players with the highest bowling averages will still be classified as batsmen and their bowling considered a bonus.

The top 8 each need to be represented by one player in the following categories:

    Batting average of:

    Under 22
    22-26
    26-30
    30-34
    34-38
    38-42
    42-46
    46+

9-11 can't have a higher batting average than 22, just to avoid sneaky tactics

The 3 bowlers and 2 all rounders need to be represented by one player in the following categories:

    Bowling average of:

    Under 24
    24-28
    28-32
    32-36
    36+

Your two all rounders need to slot into both the batting and bowling categories

    16/8 hour rule

Feel free to correct me on any glaring holes. Hopefully my vision for the draft is quite clear.

Oof, heavy on the research this one. But I'll join.

What about players like Jimmy Adams or Tillakaratne Dilshan, who could be technically be considered as batsmen, all-rounders & even wicketkeepers? What would the ruling be?

Also, what about players such as Collins Obuya or Mohammad Hafeez, whom have changed roles during their intl careers?

Itl go by everyone's career stats. Jimmy didn't take enough wickets to qualify as an all rounder here, he'd be a batsman or keeper

Though I think I may be able to remove the min wicket requirement for the all rounders to make things easier. Someone tried to get sneaky in the test draft and play Kallis(batting at 8) and Hammond both with averages over 50, as all rounders. And then a third 50+ player which I forget. I didn't have the entire top 8 incorporated into the batting averages last time, so the problem might already be fixed. Kallis at 9 would be quite useless in an ODI team, but just in case I threw in a max batting average for 9-11 anyway. Bit redundant

And I doubt people would want to shortchange their bowling too much anyway

    A bit to think about.

Yeah, well once I had the idea of doing it again I thought about what went wrong last time. Hope I haven't made the rules too confusing
