Indian bowlers finally seem to have thrown in the towel. O well, can't be too hard on them. Have bowled beautifully all series.

Just a shame India couldn't win some tosses and get to bat first in this series. The 1 time they did bat first they won. That's pretty much the biggest key to winning a Test match. Putting a score on and putting the opposition under pressure.

Yeah that's why they're going to lose 4-1

Meh easily could've won the 1st and 4th tests if they'd batted at even an acceptable level. No one but themselves to blame.

Chasing is ridiculously hard in Tests. Particularly on bowler friendly tracks. Batting first is everything.
No. First innings leads are everything. This is what people always get wrong about tests in the SC as well. The pitch doesn't usually change appreciably over the first couple of days. England didn't even put up any really big totals when they batted first so India don't even have the scoreboard pressure excuse.

The only test I'd say where the toss played a big role was lords where England had a lot of luck with the conditions going their way st the right times. The rest of the series, both teams usually had similar enough conditions to bat and bowl in.

Sarcasm? Given how close this series has been barring 1 test, I think it's safe to say things might have gone a little differently had India batted first more often.
India could have just batted and bowled better actually

In the history of test cricket, the team batting first has won 817 matches and lost 739. Whilst that suggests a benefit to batting first, it's hardly the be all and end all. Needless to say also that if a team wants to improve, it's usually better to find a way of blaming themselves. In this case, India have had enough problems to do that.

5 of Root's 13 hundreds prior to this have been 180+

So it seems he's quite capable of going really big once he cracks that 3 figures. Wonder why he's dismissed so often between 50-100
