vitalogy and myself look pretty even so far.. a star bat and captain, an aussie quick and an exciting pun-filled keeper.

    Smith Hazlewood Dickwella
    Williamson Cummins de Kock.

One more similarity, you both have picked Dicks.

Is it compulsory to have your bowling lineup in your starting XI comprised of three pace bowlers & a spinner?

So the way the game goes is that there is not really a starting XI just that only the top 11 scorers count in each 3 month period (quarter) to your overall score.
So it is compulsory to have a minimum of 3 fast bowlers and a spinner in your squad of 14, but the scoring XI will be selected automatically regardless of positions.

What makes you think you would be able to snap up Amla, Warner and Faf too?

I've already picked Faf in Round 2.
