*** Official*** India in West Indies 2017

Its bizarre that our pace bowling of all looks the most settled (with backup options) while the batting is in a spot of bother. A solid no.4 is the need of the hour.

I wonder if the rise of the IPL over domestic list A cricket has led to India's top heavy batting options, as if you are any sort of international standard bat you will play in the top four in T20.
To be fair, I don't think too many international standard bats used to go back to domestic List A cricket and bat six there either.

They also aren't really that lacking in 5/6 options even if they're a bit older -- Yuvraj has been batting four but is better suited in this area, Jadhav is been great in this role lately and Raina can't even make the team. Dhoni also usually occupies one of these positions.

What they lack is players suitable to bat four, really. Their choices are their #3 or a bunch of #5s. I guess that backs up your general principle a bit - they lack someone suited to the middle overs period that doesn't really exist in between the new ball blast and the death blast in T20 - but it's more of a "good batsmen open domestically" problem than a "good batsmen bat top four domestically" problem. Even Kohli opens in the IPL sometimes.

It's a problem with Ranji too. The best batsmen will bat in the top 3.

We aren't grooming good middle order batsmen or finishers to replace the likes of MSD/Yuvraj/Raina. Jadhav is literally the only one we've found, and Pandya was picked raw and inexperienced so he can be groomed for it.

We really should be grooming guys like Sarfraz Khan, Pant, Samson, Suryakumar, etc now.

Whatever it takes!!!
The answer always is that we open with Dhawan and Rahul/Rahane and push Rohit to 4. He is excellent at it and remember he bats 3/4 for the Mumbai Indians too.

Rohit's biggest asset is that he has the ability totally kill a game by getting a ludicrously big score. Pushing him down the order would completely kill that. There's really no need to touch the opening combination.

The backlash to Dhoni's innings on social media and general media is classic subcontinental reaction to games in West Indies or New Zealand (too late or too early) where you haven't really watched the game, check the scorecard and explode.

This is the best top 3 in the world. If you're problem starts with 4, then the solution isn't to break apart something that is working best for you.

And guys, it's just 1 game, India will win the series 3-1, their next ODI series will be in India vs Australia where 350 will play 340 and everyone will forget about these 'major' batting problems India are having now.

I'm basing this off that one crazy innings in Australia but I think Pandey can potentially fill that middle order gap.

I think our spinner did well in this series- although they have not been too penetrative; they have done the job of containment.

Our fast-men will have to be disciplined and consistent in this final match. Kensrick looked like a good bowler, and in only his second match, he was in his element.

Come on Windies!!! Win this one and tie the series!

Rally, rally round the West Indies. now and Forever!!!!

Eh, he got chances in the whole ODI series against NZ and did **** all. The only one who has been cruel to him is himself.
wait wtf Rohit Sharma literally got 100 ODIs of being utter **** before they sent him up to open and all of a sudden he's indespensible

He was called Nohit for a reason

And we're discarding Pandey after 1 bad series literally right after a match winning 100 in Australia against Australia and that's justified?

****ing hell

Don't forget Rahane

Anyways they haven't discarded Pandey, he was in the CT squad before he got injured and now he's captaining the India A LO side.

Lol you need to stop perpetuating this myth. It was more like 50-60 ODIs and he had shown more than a bit of potential. He had begun doing decently by 2010. The Nohit stuff only really gained momentum after he batted like a tailender for a few games in 2012. Couldn;t buy a run on that SL tour.

I wouldn't mind Pandey back at all though. Rahane has been given more than enough chances.
