Indian Selections

What should India do with regards to the Chopra/Yuvraj/Ganguly situation for the 3rd test?

Its a very tricky situation & none of the options are ideal , but Id probably go for the second one.

i say make sachin open the batting since he has no technical deficiencies and the fact that he has the experience(ODIs) to open the batting. i think its time one of the senior members took the initiative(or the selectors force them to) and opened the batting so that a newcomer could settle in easily. even if he does fail he can always go back down the order.besides hes not ur best player anymore(dravid is) so u dont need to protect him from the new ball.

On the grounds of consistency (I advocated it here first) I suggest that they give Yuvraj the opening slot.

As someone mentioned in another thread, it might be fun if it comes off.

I think that'd be perceived as a very negative move , they are a young team on the way up & they want a long term opening combination , Sachin (and for that matter Dravid , Laxman or Ganguly) would only me opening until one of the middle order had a lean enough trot to be dropped....at which time they would slot back into the middle order.

I think Patel could be a long term opening option...but he isnt ready just yet & if he is thrust into opening its only coz theres no one better.
Id still rather they went with Parthiv than Sachin.

not necessarily...india have always been struggling to find that opening combination and if tendulkar does well at the top then i dont see any reason why he should go down the order again. sending sachin up front is anything but negative.....it shows that he is determined to go straight after the pakistan bowling. id rather an experienced player do the job instead of someone who has only played a few tests...it could be career affecting.

Doesn't make much of a difference. If Chopra and Yuvraj play, the fielding is still better.

One change that may work is getting Powar in for Agarkar. It does not matter how conducive the conditions are to seam bowling, Agarkar is not the right option as a third seamer. Except for that Australian moment of madness, he has never bowled consistently well in Tests, nor has he been great at his best, which shows in that average of 44. Even reserve bowlers can do better than that- consider Brad Williams. Besides, the Pakistanis are better players of pace than of spin. They can play bowlers who bowl at express pace well, so what's the point in going in with 3 easy-paced bowlers on flat pitches? Spin is the team's main bowling strength. The two spinners have been more active recently and are a lot fitter. No point getting in Nehra, who's just out of injury.

Makeshift openers is a bad bad idea, one should always have SPECIALIST openers for test match.

If there is a weakness in Indian batting lineup then it got to be its openeing batsman. I don't think ganguly should open in test match, nor should Yuvraj be asked to do so. Though now that there isn't any third opener in the team and Chopra has flopped, Yuvraj might be asked to open just for third match.

I think Ganguly will open with the kind of attitude he has.
Or maybe if he's not in a mood to spent much time on the pitch and wants to head back to the dressing room.

If he opens, i think Akhter will get him out early (though i would love to be proven wrong, nothing cheers me more than seeing Akhter and Sami getting thrashed:D )

But the absence of mighty Shabbir do saddens me alot!

I think Laxman should open, Ganguly and yuvraj should just come down the order.

India must play with Nehra in the Pindi test match, the game is really poorer without him.Ajit has clearly not regained fitness, so he should get the axe.

This would be the XI I would use.

Sehwag
Tendulkar
Dravid
Laxman
Ganguly
Patel
Yuvraj
Pathan
Agarkar
Kumble
Balaji

That would be the best order to go with to me

Yuvi-Viru will be the ideal opening pair for Ind in the upcoming crucial test.
I am not sure if Yuvraj could do anything opening...he is more of a middle order batsman

Here is a Wierd suggestion but here you go -

How about Dropping Parthiv and let Dravid keep wickets, Make Gangs bat at Parthiv's position. Yuvraj keeps his position.
