Interesting call; what's your reasoning?

I think they're going to be absolutely terrible.
Yeah, they're paying 29 for a reason. They might get far because they're tough little fellas but they're not going to win.

I think they have most things covered, they're strongest suit being their mystery spinners and hearth who should bowl 12 economical overs along with a genuinely quick exciting chameera (although chameera could go either way as his extra pace could help the batsmen if he isn't on the money), put this with in my eyes still the best fast t20 bowler at the tournament in malinga and they have a great bowling unit.
Chandimal will be a star, I can see him up there with root kohli Kane and smith as the best young batsmen in the world in the next year or two. If dilshan can get them off to good starts and Matthews coming in down the order they have 3 world class players without being too reliant on individuals. Dilshan is also more than useful with the ball if one of the others is getting tapped.
Their weakness may be lack of power hitters in the mid/lower order but with 140 possibly being a par score in most grounds this may not be that crucial. Their fielding is also a woeful but that didn't stop them winning in 2014 and 1996!
I am genuinely not sure if we will qualify from the group..our main issue imo is that our shot selection is really poor. As you say we have lost the confidence to power hit and often guys like chandimal, shanaka and jayasuriya seem more interested in a high SR opposed to a bagful of runs at a slower pace..yes I know it's T20 but there's still 120 balls to go at..we need Senanayake to put his (straight) hand up again and support Herath. I think Siriwardena will pick up quite a few wickets but all in all our batsmen just aren't good enough at present..

My money would be on NZ..balanced team with power hitters, excellent fielding and an unexpectedly strong spin line up..

The real question is whether a team from the Southern Hemisphere will finally win the world cup?
Might help if they actually staged some in the Southern hemisphere. IIRC only 1 out of 6 tournaments so far have been in the south & that was the first one in SA in 2007.

Yeah but this is more a reflection of where T20 cricket is most popular. This is one of the most financially viable tournaments for the ICC.

I would argue that home advantage counts for naught - with the exception of SL, all of the other previous victors won not just away from home but on different continents.
