Shahid Afridi's final international tournament in Pakistani Colours. Tributes?

As it is said "expect the unexpected". With respect to batting it is that with Afridi..cannot forget his 50 vs Aus off 20+ balls..some massive shots..He is a good steady legbreak bowler with an occasional fast in dipper..He took lots of wickets with that. ..I hate the way he celebrates each wicket though.... Thanks for the entertainment Lala ...

One of the finest and most intelligent limited overs spinners to play the game.

One of the most naturally gifted yet entirely ridiculously stupid batsman to play the game.

Also has by far the most confusing age in cricket. Copped flak for being older than he is reported to be on debut, yet is still playing 20 years later.

The ultimate troll cricketer.

Haters can suck it.

Hard to disagree with a lot of that, their was some gloriously stupid stuff from him, but when you look back at Pakistan's finest achievement of the last 10 years which is winning the t20 world cup in 2009, he was absolute clutch, that performance against South Africa in the semi final was superb.

However, you would be very brave to put money on him never playing international cricket after this world cup, plenty of rumours that he will continue.

Who made that awesome post predicting the 2030 Pakistan team with all Mohammeds and Khans and Shahid Afridi?

His best innings ever was in Chennai 1999 where that jerk Sachin stole the MotM from him. 141 @ a SR of 73 and only 3 sixes. That's amazing temperament for him.

How old do people reckon he really is? He seems to have gone from about 25 to 30 when he should have gone from 16 to 36.

Do you think he's carried on playing for so long just to spite everyone who questioned his age?

Massive symptom of the Gen Y cricketing fan base. Hits some sixes which somehow means he must be a good cricketer, is seriously stupid as well as a known cheat. Monumentally over rated because basically Pakistan have been monumentally **** throughout his career and he's been a constant through a lot of that and has occasionally made their fans happy for an average of 15 balls per ODI (his usual length of innings).

Possibly the single most over rated LO cricketer of all time. Wouldn't give you two bob for him, frankly.

Had a couple of years where he bowled decently, but seriously, he was cod ordinary for the vast majority of his career. He's been like the old Penny Bunger on cracker night - you light him up, and occasionally he put on a bit of a show, but usually there'd be a "pffft, pfffft", a couple of sparks and he topples over and fizzles out*

One of the most exciting cricketers of my generation.. Just like most Pakistani players from 90s.. he had the potential to be one of the greatest cricketers of all time... Today looking back I see a career that could have been a lot better.. but he still did a lot for Pakistan..

some of Afridi's big moment that I remember as a fan..

regardless of what most people say about his age.. scoring a century in 37 ball.. The number of sixes he hit on that match.. and how that record continued to be around for a while.. something that needs mentioning.. then a few years later.. playing that great test innings against india in Chennie in a pressure game... where the stakes were very high.. this was the time, if he used his brain and Pakistani politics didn't take away Jawid Maindad from him.. he could have become a great batsman..

Afridi continued to be around.. he struck again in 2005.. not only he scored a century on that tour of india in ODI.. which was one of the most popular one day series for Pakistani fans..but also.. bowled Pakistan to victory in 3rd test in Banglore.. leveling the series for Pakistan.. In a 5th day pitch.. taking the 3 big wickets of sachin, laxman and Ganguly.. It was truly a huge deal..

then came the great time when he won Pakistan the world cup. He did really well being the man of the series on the first twenty 20 world cup 2007.. but in 2009.. he was the reason for Pakistan wining the cup..

He was also the highest wicket taker in 50 over world cup in 2011 taking his team to quarter final...

overall, he could have done a lot better.. but one thing that we all can agree on is that he was an impact player.. every time he performed... his team did well.. He will defiantly be missed as without him pak team is not the same.. look at their ODI team.. almost ranked number number 10 right now.

I still think he should give up captaincy and play another couple of years as a player...

yes there are controversies..scandals and the things that he has done that made Pakistani cricket fans not proud of him.. but he never fixed matches.. and was always honest.. unlike some other great legendry cricketers..

that is something that Pakistanis should be proud of.. with Afridi.. they always got a honest player who gave them his 100%..

Where is Pakistani team ranked in ODI without him at the moment?

he also won Pakistan the world cup in 2009? what do you think of that.

Didn't he take that team to 2011 world cup quarter final with 22 wickets as he was the highest wicket taker on that world cup? .. Not to forget.. took pak team to final in 2007 20 twenty world cup?

My favourite Afridi innings was one he played against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup around 2010. Almost single-handedly took them to a decent score.
