Oh, very good to see Adam Milne there. Although it will be largely unhelpful conditions, perhaps they can get a local to teach him how to reverse it.

Ha, so apparently Neil Broom has played test cricket according to Lawnbowl's John.

I'm guessing Ryder wasn't available, or they just overlooked him. Raval's non-selection is quite ridiculous considering the options at the top. He's got a good record and he's only 24. Wheeler perhaps a little unlucky not to be selected, considering Milne was. Might be injured, I guess.

Lots to like about that squad though.

I would guess if Ryder was available he would be playing Carribean Premier League

Bevan Small Discharged Without Conviction For Drink... | Stuff.co.nz

A promising Manawatu cricketer has escaped conviction after driving drunk because a conviction would have seriously damaged his prospects of playing overseas.

Manawatu cricketer and pace bowler Bevan Small faced a charge of driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 826 micrograms, more than double the legal limit of 400 for an adult.

He was caught driving in central Palmerston North about 3am on June 24 last year.

The case was shifted to the Wellington District Court where he pleaded guilty and asked for a discharge without conviction on the basis of consequences to any international career he might pursue.
Old blast-from-the-past Stags at it again. They'll hit you with the 'I've got all day, and night' chauvinism of olden times to beat you in a four-dayer, but it won't stop there. Heinrich's got his work cut out.

Heh, was just about to comment on this. Looks like Dougeh might have some competition next season for the title of biggest drunken **** up in the CD ranks. Though they've both still got a long way to go before they catch the king.

would a drunk driving conviction really prevent someone from touring?

I presume that by international career in this context, he means getting a contract with a County, IPL team or even a club team overseas rather than playing international cricket for the Black Caps.

Even then I think the claim is somewhat dubious.

Boam quits, that is pretty disapointing, what is happening in Wellington, that the young players are not inspired.

Oh dear god. It's like the Stu Mills or Joe Austin-Smellie departures only much worse. WTF is going on?

Lol Siddons. "I don't know why he's leaving. We givez him so much opportunitiez!"

Like playing a batting allrounder every second game at number eight and barely giving him a bowl?

A little disappointing he didn't just move to another province instead, maybe 12-24 months ago when he was stuck behind 50 other Wellington allrounders, Wellington were a basket-case, and before the malaise set in. Though from the article it also looks like he's fairly tied to living in Wellington.

Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play top level cricket again.

He certainly preferred a lack of sideways like a No. 8 tbf.

But yes, I think there's quite a few of the smarter guys who'd empathise with Boam within NZ cricket these days. ('Oh so you're a fully practicing dentist now. Yeah yeah, still just down here playing for the Volts. No, they don't really do commentaries any more. ND still seems to be really into it, plenty of updates for them during the Farming Show...').
