Simpson and many others were great slip fielders, Taylor aswell could put his hand up as a slip and opener. But I've gone for the best side I could while not losing anything in terms of fielding, which is why the bowling is a bit light on. As good as Simpson was I think his slip fielding = to Hammond but a touch lower in his batting.

Two other's to consider would be Keith Miller and Allan Davidson. Both where reputed to be brilliant all round fields.

Davidson got his nick name of the claw for his catching, was also famous for running batsmen out with direct hits from the boundry line.

kyear 2 you can update the list and add a Reuters XI

Reuters XI: Hobbs, Gavaskar, Bradman, Headley, Grace, Sobers, Imran, Knott, Warne, Lillee, Barnes.

All-time world cricket XI proves difficult to choose | Left field

A question rolling around in my head.

With Marshall and Warne intrenched and the first two bowlers selected in most ATG XI's, which if the better combination to partner them

    Lillee and Wasim
    or
    McGrath and Imran

Know these are not everyone'c choices, I just wan't a feeling on who people think would be more effective.

Did you mean McGrath and Khan?
as you say they aren't the only choices but from those 2 I'd take Lillee and Wasim as backups. Too hard to go past Lillee. That's such a tough decision, the more I look at it the more I want Imran and McGrath. No, I'll stick with Lillee and Wasim.

awta. Imran and McGrath just add much more value to the side than Wasim and Lillee

about time you voted for Imran
In a team I'd rather Imran as his batting is obviously better and other aspects as well. But just as a bowling unit I like Lillee's aggression.

I actually tend to think that people end up under rating Imran's bowling. At his peak there has probably never been a better bowler and he was no one-trick pony. Could put pressure on good batting line-ups and would raise his game against good opposition.

Yes was supposed to be Wasim and Lillee or McGrath and Imran.

Honestly don't know which would be better and more effective.

Pragmatically Imran and Mcgrath makes the most sense as Imran brings his batting and McGrath was successful everywhere and so clinical, Wasim and Lillee bring a mix of genius and aggression that is almost unmatched. Lillee and Wasim had every trick up their sleeves and most of their peers named them the best of their times. So even though McGrath and Imran statistically all of the anecdotal evidence points to Lillee and Akram. Really tough to choose.

I don't know if I'd go this far but he was definitely as good as any other quick bowler.

I think his all round skills take away from the legacy as a quick bowler. If he'd only been a pace bowler people would probably regard him better as a bowler.
    The Sean likes this.

    McGrath > Lillee
    Imran > Wasim

No brainer as far as I am concerned.

When are any of these ****s going to pick Murali in their XIs? Everyone misses out in one team or the other, but Warne is a constant despite having such a worthy contender who on many counts is superior.
