It will be interesting who keeps for ND next round. Watling or Wheater. Wheater plays as specialist bat for his county I think I read here?

With Wright gone from nz coach, is Watling still seen as potential keeping option at test level?
I haven't watched an ODI in ages, so how was his keeping during the winter? Did he keep?

BTW. Good stuff Milne!

Hah, really hope Milne doesn't pick up a hattrick. Would be too good if he was out for 97 and missed 2 hattricks on the same day.

4b from Milne, next over 5nb from Mathiesen. Assume the two speedsters are pretty excited atm. Poor Ben Smith, no idea how good a keeper he is, but sounds like a tough day for keeper and batsmen.

Looking forward to seeing the video from today, excitings days cricket.

First career 5-for for Milne. Well done.

Great stuff from Milne. And no, I still wouldn't take him to SA. This is exactly where he should be right now, learning his craft against modest domestic batting lineups. It'll still provide a decent challenge for him, especially as the pitches dry up after the new year. And I much prefer this to him carrying the drinks in SA.

If he does keep up this red-hot form, I'd maybe support his inclusion in the squad for next year's tour of England. That's asking quite a lot though, and I still reckon next year's series v the Windies is a more realistic target. For now, he should just keep on terrorising domestic batsmen, and helping Carl Cachopa develop his technique against the short stuff.

Looks like CD are using him in short explosive bursts, which is smart cricket especially on what the 1st innings would suggest is a very good batting track.

I'm not going to make any calls on the squad until we see a few more FC games and this test is done. Aren't the tests in January?

Also depends when the HRV and Ford Trophy are on.

I think they're in January, Phlegm. It's boss how we get five tests in total vs England before August next year.

So, anyone know which potential NZ batsmen are any good in the slips?

NZ slip fielding is utterly abysmal with the sole exception of Guptill, our worst batsman.

Bring back Tim McIntosh - at least he could catch

Milne played some lovely shots last night, although he should've been caught at first slip on 30 odd.

You have to take him afaic. Said it last week but you're kidding yourself if you believe either Martin or Wagner would be a better option.

Heh, this is already reminding me of the debate over whether to pick 19 yr old Southee a few years ago.

Southee's development as a bowler may be instructive in what to do with Milne. Though would another year or two in domestix have helped Southee? It's hard to say. Quality comes out in the end.

With Milne I'm probably even more concerned about injury than I was with Southee, so there's that aspect too.

All in all, don't think it would be a bad idea to include Milne as a test reserve. Probably too early for a full time spot in the XI though.

Sinclair got out to Blair Soper - that's all you need to know.In fact a trap was set and he was bounced out - and he did that so very Skippy thing he's been doing for years where he stands around in the hope that God calls him back on DRS.
