*Official* New Zealand Domestic Cricket Season 2012/2013

How long do Oram and Mills each have left like Wagner has asked? Steve? Anyone.
How long is a piece of string, or a hamstring for that matter? It's anyone's guess. Chris Martin thought he was going to retire two summers ago but things change.

Oram I would say is more likely to go first. It was fairly generous to give him a contract this season, and the word from NZC was it centred more than a little bit around sentimentality and reward for 'dedicated service'. He'll probably settle into being a T20 for hire by summer's end.

Mills might stick around a bit longer if his body allows it. Not to the 2015 World Cup but maybe a couple more summers

Does anyone know why Scott Kuggeleijn hasn't carried on playing for the Dutch? I notice he hasn't been playing in their domestic league this season, and I'm certain that he could be in their best national XI with some ease-he'd form quite a quite fearsome new ball partnership with Timm van Der Gugten by Associate standards.

I'm starting to assume that he's given it up to further his FC career in New Zealand, so is now the right time to adjust his nationality in the Cricket Coach DB to Kiwi with second nationality Dutch, rather than the other way around at present?

For anyone who plays the Cricket Coach game, I've almost finished completing my NZ update, complete with all U19I's of note and every Provincial "A" player who I could find a DOB for. I'd love to hear any feedback on my ratings-the Kiwi threads on here are great for info that bare playing stats don't reveal! The latest DB is downloadable here: Rockingham Software Ltd | Cricket Coach Series | Online Player Editor

I have to admit I've never seen it in writing the one overseas player rule for NZ domestic sides, whether Woakes coming to Wgtn would mean he couldn't play in the same XI.

Yep, the only time you're allowed to have more than one player (or two in T20) in any XI not ready to play for NZ at a moment's notice is a Wagner-type holding period.

2. Overseas Player means a person who is not eligible to play for the Black Caps; and does not meet
the NZ Qualifying Player criteria.
3. NZ Qualifying Player is a player who:
a) has declared his intention, in writing to NZC, to become eligible to represent the
BLACKCAPS;
(b) is not currently eligible to be selected for the BLACKCAPS or available for selection
for another country‟s national team;
(c) has, immediately following his declaration played in New Zealand for two (2)
consecutive seasons and/or resided in New Zealand for a continuous period of not less
than 12 months; and
(d) continues to demonstrate his ongoing commitment to becoming eligible for the
BLACKCAPS to the satisfaction of NZC and the CPA.

Hah, you've even taken into account various CW posters' sentiments towards Matt Henry and Ish Sodhi in the 'bowl potential' numbers by the looks, guess that's just what their early stats suggest as well. State Championship can be changed to Plunket Shield, State Shield changed to Ford Trophy. de Grandhomme being quicker than Southee is wrong (CdG was ~130 last night tbf, so I'd make him MF, Southee FM), and Butler's FM/MF these days. Have you got Oram's 59 score in injury proneness one of the very worst of all 4921 players? :p

A few home ground corrections:
Basin Reserve for Wellington
University Oval for Otago rather than Carisbrook
Village Green destroyed in Feb 2012 earthquake, Hagley Oval for Cantabs

Heck yeah I considered things people said on here and last season's thread, then went away and investigated them myself. For example you can't really argue with Henry's quality, and I'd consider rating him above the likes of Arnell and McKay (I think he's better), but then the game would pick Henry ahead of them for NZ. And the selectors aint that smart

Sodhi looks a top prospect; his club performances last year were really impressive (can't remember where I got the stats from now), his U19I showings are decent, and it's understandable why there's a bit of a buzz about him.

Yes I took Southee up to FM just the other day after seeing him touch 140 in the WC. Thanks for the other pointers on bowling speeds, you know how unreliable the likes of Cricinfo are. I made Colin MF a while back now so I'm not sure if you've got the very latest DB: lob these two files into the DB instead of the same-named ones that are there and it's bang up to date: CC 12 LATEST.rar

That Butler pointer is really invaluable, thanks! I think I'll go FM for now, as long as he can hit 134/5 still.

As for Oram's 59 IPR: as it happens the most injury-prone player in the DB is a Kiwi. See if you can guess/spot him...he's a seamer.

Any other info on incorrect bowling speeds would be brilliant. Is Van Beek genuinely quick, for example? This calls him "medium-pace"! http://www.cricketeurope4.net/DATABASE/ARTICLES5/articles/000009/000933.shtml

Bowling ratings also give me sleepless nights at times...I'm still not sure if I have Small and Neesham quite right. I'm on a bit of a mission to get all nations pitched at the right levels relatively, but then you look at Jarvis's figures last season and wonder about the standard sometimes.

And thanks for the stadia info-I didn't use to be able to edit that part of the DB, but I can now, so I'll get to building (and demolishing).

I'm also a big fan of Dutch cricket and will try and get their league in the game soon, which is packed with Kiwis. There's a few in the lower league too, but this may be of interest to people to see how the top-flight guys over there have been going this season: Topklasse Statistics

Oh yeah and I'm not sure if we can get away with the competition names due to rights issues (check our Big Bash franchise names!), but I'll ask the games supremo to see if we can.

Plunket Shield isn't a sponsors name. it is the traditional name, that was ditched in about the late 70s when Shell took over sponsorship. Delighted to see it back, but truth be told it was because they couldn't find another sponsor.

Ford Trophy is sponsors name obviously.

BTW, The old State Championship & State Shield were sponsors names (An insurance company)

P.S. I would guess Van Beek bowls about 130ish from looking at him last season on the pooch player

Does anyone know what the Hagley Oval bowling ends are called or its capacity? Sounds like there's some serious expansion work planned.

Guess I'll go with the Wiki seating of 6000 for University Oval, but again-does anybody know the bowling end names?

Great second win for Auckland in the Champions League. That's the best Azhar Mahmood has bowled in a while! Suppose I'd better stick Lou Vincent back there as a T20 Only player seeing as he's probably not going to be involved for Rhino's. It does seem a bit tenuous his involvement, he only played one HRV Cup game for them last season. Anyone know if he's likely to be back there this year?

Burtt gets 99! My second choice. First choice was Sherlock, 16 FC games in nine years gets a 64, actually quite generous.

Good stuff, we should be able to re-name the Plunket then. And I'll go for RMF for van Beek I think.
He was actually clocked in a game last season, 130-135.

Yep, I think everyone sees Neesham as much more of a jobber in the making than Small.

Kyle Jarvis, Plunket Shield Wickets - YouTube Get in close and pop it on a length! Johnny Domestic will treat you well.

Germon said the ground would seat 20,000 at capacity, with 4000 temporary seats, As it stands, 4,000 I'd say.

Just Northern End and Southern End for University Oval apparently.

Hopefully Hawke Cup teams/players can make it into this Database. Seems a number of guys on here or around these parts play at that level and would be able to provide the inside track on a number of the teams. Not that I understand what this Database is. Is it something that could get Kim Dotcom in trouble?

Darn tooting, I always avoid removing ex-FC players as they are often active lower down and if can get even approximate DOB's, I'd love a non-FC competition from NZ in the game. We could even knock up a slightly-different-from-reality competition of any Hawke/Hickey Cup teams that we can get good detail on. We have non-FC modes in the game but sides from those levels haven't been added-until now: I started adding the Dutch Topklasse last night. Partly motivated by the strong Kiwi presence there-we have separate slots for Northern and Southern Hemisphere contracts, so it works well.

If you look at the bottom table of this link, the top of the 2nd division batting averages make interesting reading from a NZ perspective too: KNCB - Hoofdklasse 2012 | Competitie

Fulton making hay!

As for "this database"-it's the official database for the PC game Cricket Coach 2012. Me and another bloke have rated everyone from NZ, Eng, India (they took me almost 6 mths alone!), Australia, Zimbabwe and all of the Associates. Work is still ongoing on the other Test nations.

The game doesn't get the attention it deserves compared to ICC, but eventually we intend to evolve it into the Football Manager of Cricket Games. Me and the other guy work entirely for free and the sheer geekiness of it. We love cricket and think we have the best commercially released DB ever created. The more people can help us expand it, the better, and eventually it will be a much better engine than ICC (it isn't that far off IMO!). What maybe holds us back is that the programmer is entirely independent and self funded, and can only spare a certain amount of his year on the game. But we keep beavering away perfecting the DB, as the games creator is a top bloke and we know that eventually the game will be every bit as intricate and realistic as the DB.

A huge "thank you" to everyone who has posted links and info above, it really is all incredibly helpful in fleshing things out. Reckon I'll go with FM rather than MF for van Beek, then.

Apologies for hijacking the thread a bit!

Love the Jarvis footage-is that Cleaver with the slightly camp over-excited celebrations each wicket?

As for Sherlock, it's hard to tell with his injury record, but...does anyone know if he's still active at non-FC level? Seeing as Kippax thinks I've been kind, I'll up his IPR to 90-ish.

That's the little leprechaun who currently has the NZ gloves jumping for joy in the first minute or so.

@matthenry523 you better get those tweeting loads back up nice and steady. 20 tweets @ 50% in first week...
Sodhi's moved from Auckland to ND, Hira to Canterbury, Tuffey retired, not sure if the database aims to be fluid like that rather than taking a snapshot of everyone on a given date.

Cricket Wellington have a very nice stats module on their website for all levels of Club Cricket, but you could certainly easily get the information about general performance levels in Club Cricket, at least in our region.

Then on CricketWeb, I think there are guys who've played for Hamilton, Marlborough and North Otago at Hawke Cup level in recent years.

Ewan Chatfield's still playing Club Cricket - so whack him in the database, aye? ;)

Cheers, I'd got Tuffey and Sodhi but had missed Hira. Funny little short-term specialist that he appears to be. I suppose the intention is that he compliments the more FC-suited Astle?

We do take snapshots at certain points, but I'm currently between them. We have optional starts of April or October, so I won't be updating English rosters until we can play next season (so NH in the DB is effectively the season just gone). But I'm updating the SH sides now to reflect what's coming this season: it's very much a "live" DB everywhere bar England and Holland.

I'd assumed that it was the enthusiastic youngster jumping for joy behind the stumps at the start, followed by the sober barely-reacting-at-all old-pro at the end: turns out they're the other way around! Guess you need a bit of experience to have the confidence to celebrate like that.

Yes this on Wellington is great: Wellington Cricket- Draws/Results

Ideally I'd have something like that for every region as FC and Provincial A doesn't always give you enough data to get the full picture on emerging players (and old lags, for that matter). Plus it often lets you know a lot about the batting merits of people who are lower order or tail-end at FC level. Seeing as some players at club level are also playing in Holland, its even more handy for me.
