Meh, Beer took 26 wickets @ 26 this season and finished 8th on the Shield aggregate wickets chart, as the incumbent backup spinner. Can't fault that, and even if he does look pretty average the next two best spinners this Shield season were Holland and Doherty, so I'm happy for his inclusion.

Absolutely no surprises. Good squad.
Actually, I'm a *little* surprised that Christian isn't there given he was in the 13 all Test summer, but I guess if he wasn't going to play when Watson was unavailable he's certainly not going to play with him there.

Was going by aggregates; Katich only took 10. They were all early-season and then he suddenly stopped bowling too.. the fact that we started picking 8 specialist bowlers every match probably played a part there I guess.

yeah it makes sense, just so depressing.

I didn't see too many of the ODI's, but Forrest looks like an interesting pick. A FC average of 36... looks like a very English selection. Presumably that's weighed down by poor results at the early stages of his career?

More weighted down by last season, when he averaged 18 with a high score of 40, so no. Averaged 58 this year so it's a good time to pick him I suppose.

It was a change of teams that did the trick for Forrest. Also the fact that he felt less pressure as he knew his spot was his for a while at QLD, which wasn't the case when he was at NSW.

The problem I have with this is that he's going to have a ton of pressure on him if he were to play a Test.

If you look at the other young batsman who have been selected recently (Hughes, Khawaja, Marsh) none of them deserved to make the tour.

I'm happy with the squad, I do wish they had of waited until after the Shield Final.

Apparently the sheep from which they get the wool to make the team blazers and caps are fed on grass which was grown from the seeds of the turf at the SCG.

These are the big issues which CA is addressing.

News just in that Haddin has left the tour for personal reasons.

I hope everything is okay with his family, his wife was heavily pregnant at the AB medal.

"no further comment will be made on his behalf"

"still the first choice keeper for the tests"

I think they should probably go on lastminute and send a backup though...
