He tops the run scorers list in the Ranji Trophy AGAIN, is it time to give him another shot at Test cricket? Pujara has done similarly to Badrinath, against the same opposition. However, Badri has a better domestic record proven over a longer period of time.

Obviously Badrinath. Pujara isn't quite the finished article. When someone has played over a century of FC games and makes a habit of scoring centuries, he's surely better than the one who's only played half as much. Ranji experience should be valued in selections, as the people who come up the hard way will get a game, as against the flawed logic of getting in players fresh out of youth teams. The likes of Badri, Murali Kartik, Mishra, Vinay Kumar, Irfan (if he stays fit) and by a long shot Pankaj Singh and Ramesh Powar should be in contention for places in the national side, as it will make younger players take Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy more seriously, with the IPL impact, and make them earn their cap on performance, rather than accept it as a gift because of their youth. It will also go far in weeding out age cheats in junior cricket. Experience in playing for India A abroad as well as for Board XI teams against visiting sides should also be considered.

In a post-Sachin-Laxman-Dravid era, the old hands from the domestic setup should be given a higher preference and a longer run in the team.

This never ever happens with Indian bowlers.

If they have the right people in charge of pace bowlers, it would happen. But then

1. Players from previous generations (Bedi's Indian Way) cry foul over Indian pacers trying to bowl fast.
2. Bowlers with genuine pace are virtually forced to cut down on pace, for line and length (Munaf for instance).
3. There's no proper fitness training regime, or support system to reduce injuries.
4. There's no real player management, with players losing their places virtually permanently, with poor replacements chosen.
5. They could do with a coach or consultant who knows what bowlers need to do to add and sustain pace- India hasn't had one yet.

It's so easy to love this Rajasthan outfit, isn't it?

Rajasthan are a tad imbalanced, unlike Baroda. Then again, Baroda will miss both Yusuf and Munaf, who added balance as well as bowling strength, while Rajasthan will be at full strength. Baroda have better players, but don't combine so well. It will be a pivotal match for Rayudu, Pinal, Pankaj, Meenaria and Chahar. Rajasthan, though, will have a lot more supporters, as theirs is a tale many would love- mostly youngsters, playing well together, enjoying their cricket and knocking over giants in their quest for the title. Baroda, though, are not giants of the same class as Mumbai and TN, and though rather scratchy, can force the issue and win.

This will be a good game to watch.

What sort of speed were Pankaj Singh, Mathur, Balaji and Suthesh bowling?

They were only medium-pace. Pankaj Singh had adequate power, getting some bounce, but at a reduced pace, he couldn't do much and got just two wickets in the game. Not ideal on a flat deck. Chahar got a great deal of swing and surprised the batsmen, but once they got used to his bowling, he was a lot less of a threat and his line started faltering. Sumit Mathur isn't special- just another very average medium-pacer just right for domestic cricket, as long as the pitch isn't flat. Vivek Yadav, far from a national contender as a spinner, was a surprise, but no support came from the batting while they bowled.

The Ranji trophy final is currently going on currently between Baroda and Rajasthan and after a real slow batting performance on day one rajasthan are 198/3.

But the day was marred by this bizarre incident -

With good luck balloons and a round of firecrackers accompanying the band who played through the morning at the Motibagh ground, the opening day of the Ranji Trophy final was expected to see lot of explosive action on the field. Though a cautious approach by Baroda and Rajasthan meant there were
hardly any crackers on the playfield, one bombshell made up for it. And it wasn’t a towering six or a copybook drive or an unplayable in swinger.
The first ball of the second session saw Rajasthan opener Vineet Saxena mistime a cover drive off Murtuja Vahora. and the ball rolled towards mid-on off the inside edge.
Glaring at the ball once, Saxena came back into the crease and went gardening, knocking the wicket and waving at the square-leg umpire K Hariharan after taking a couple of steps outside the crease to indicate he was leaving his crease.
While the bowler turned around to head back to the top of his run up, Bhargav Bhatt at mid-on was about to collect the ball. Sensing an opportunity, Baroda wicketkeeper-captain Pinal Shah prompted Bhatt to knock the stumps down at the striker’s end and the fielder didn’t miss.
A loud run out appeal took both the umpires - neither of whom appeared to have seen Saxena’s gesture - by surprise. And after consulting
third umpire Shamsuddin whether the batsman was in the
crease when he gestured to Hariharan, the square-leg umpire and his colleague at the other end Shavir Tarapore decided to uphold the appeal.
The laws of cricket were certainly followed but was it at the cost of the spirit of the game? Rajasthan skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar who was dumbstruck watching it unfold from the other end criticised his counterpart.
“I’d have never claimed that dismissal,” he said after the day’s play. Shah retorted saying it wasn’t a “planned move”. “I saw him (Saxena) walking out of the crease and I thought the ball was in play, so it was worth taking the gamble,” he said.
Will the episode start a series of ugly incidents in the high-pro file final?

That is the aspect of this match that i am most looking forward too.

Not many other potential Indian national prospects playing in this game.

Btw,i hope even more that Rajasthan wins after that runout incident. There was a similar incident in last years final too with agarkar ,though this was worse.

The Rajasthan innings ended tamely. The tailenders got out very cheaply, and Rajasthan missed the 400. Pankaj Singh, among this bunch, is a productive tailender, but in a bid to race ahead, hit a six, and attempted another, to miss the ball and get bowled by spinner Swapnil. The other spinner, Bharghav Bhatt, got five wickets, and his impressive run continues. No Baroda wicket has fallen yet, and a lot depends on Rayudu and Pinal. Will they resist the Pankaj-Deepak duo? Maybe now it's worth a watch, but this pitch is so dull and lifeless, the bowlers should expect no aid whatsoever.

Bhargav Bhatt has done really well this season and is the top wicketaker in the Ranji season comfortably this year and has picked up another 5fer here.

Though he has played on helpful pitched for Baroda ,his strike rate of 41 for 50 wickets is very good this season.

Yeah ,bowls many lose ball specially with a newer ball when he tries to swing it.

But he is the only real one who has swung the ball consistently on the pitch,and can swing it both ways which is a real asset.
