Can't go past ND's picks though.
Yeah, pretty annoyed we didn't get some better players considering our coffers should be chock full of cash and Hunt says he had a number of players approach him. Finding a good specialist middle order batsman would have been better than two very similar players imo.

Giving CD a decent spiner would really do them a world of good.
Blackwell doesn't appear to be the most successful FC spinner, and Yardy looks like a specialist batsman at FC level.

Besides, we have the next great New Zealand Legspinner! Nethula!

Both would still be good here I reckon.
Nah, they'd just be like every other spinner in New Zealand. Blackwell maybe a bit better. Yardy's FC bowling is dire dire dire. We'd be better off playing them as batting allrounders and going with a pace attack.

Northern Districts and Auckland look to be the teams to beat at this stage imo, especially when you include the New Zealand players who should only miss the first three rounds I think?

Blackwell's a better bowler than those figures suggest - he's spent the majority of his career with Taunton as his home ground, which is an absolutely nightmare for spinners. He'll be one of the better spinners in the Plunket Shield if he plays IMO.

He's improved his allround cricket a lot since moving to Durham - he's taken 94 wickets @ 25 for them.

Yardy doesn't bowl in First Class cricket at all. Nor should he. If you're not looking to score a lot off him he's extremely easy to negotiate. Even when you are looking to score off him he doesn't get you out - he just makes it very difficult for you to do so.

Both Mickey Mouse but Blackwell will love the postage size grounds in New Zealand, the benign wickets and Kiwi “quicks” whilst Yardy will choke the batsman with 70mph darts. Gibbs, Wright, Blackwell, Yardy, thank goodness for The Future of the Game® and RTD!

:laugh:Love the cynicism.

Will be interesting to see if Franklin bats quite high up for Wellington like he did for his county side in 20/20 or List A (was it both or just the one?). Wellington's bowling with the return of O'Brien is gaining some depth.

Franklin hardly ever played above 5 in England.

He did in the limited overs stuff didn't he? He scored a couple of list A 100's opening this season.

Hence the next time Scaly posts drivel about NZ I'm going to remind him who gunned it in English domestic cricket up the order:
