Should Australia have 8 states instead of 6

Vic might not definitely play McGain over Holland, especially in OD Cricket. If he or Pattinson are worried they could always move to any of the other states.

You say 66 players, but really it's more like 80 with the Aussie squad hardly ever being available. Also the states then go buying specialist International T20 players when they have the chance to give some of the younger guys a hit.

Also, tell us more about Lea Hansen, I don't remember him at all.

International Captain
Actually as i write jon holland has just been called up to the australia one day squad.
Lea hansen had a wow of a season left arm fast bowler in comets 2nd season played 7 games,so impressed the aussie selectors called him up.
Then he had an injury the comets 3rd season and didn't play.
Then the comets we're axed and we never heard of him again.
From what i remember he played a few games for australia A ,it was against india A in america.
I guess he moved states dunno where but he never got a game again too much competition.
I always thought graeme cunningham was a potential australian one day player, think he moved to tassie but never kicked on,still plays grade tho.

If there is any expansion, the best way to do it would be to move away from the "States" as teams, and look more to a franchise type model, thus allowing more than 1 team in certain states. As Tharmi/BB said, with some states already struggling to produce their own talent, it's almost pointless adding a team from say NT, when a second NSW/Vic or even QLD team would be a more viable option.

Don't think it's in dispute that the Comets squad had local talent, tbh. That they played no 4-day cricket hampered them more than anything (Hanson was over-rated, though). Their playing list was really only drained for that reason as Haddin, Higgs, etc. only moved states to play FC cricket.

The problem with shoving in an NT team is that you wouldn't be able to play any games at home during the wet season. Canberra's current strength would be a worry too but if given a chance to retain their players, who knows?

Hansen has come back and plays for Queanbeyan, I got him out in a game season before last. He generally plays 2nd's as a middle order batsman and part time bowler.

Yeah I definitely agree with this, when you have so much talent being wasted on the benches of the big teams it would be a good idea to move to a franchise system.
