Although ECB are still believed to be in negotiations with BCCI, it is nevertheless expected the latest proposal will go ahead, since England want the tour to be over before Christmas. "The England players want to return home for Christmas and the second Test is scheduled to finish on December 23", Shah pointed out.

We seem to get this 'players want to be home at christmas' arguement every year. It even goes back to Naser Hussain's time as captain & it really pisses me off. It is one of the reasons the England management puts forward for shorter tours which have an adverse affect on the team with a lack of preparation & tour games.

FFS they are Test cricketers & one of the commitments you may have to give as a test cricketer is to go on long tours away from your family. It's about time the ECB grew a back bone and organised tours with the aim of giving England the best chance of winning and not to fit in the players' family and social life.

Indeed. Christmas in a five star hotel, waited on hand and foot is a darn sight better than eating your starchy Christmas dinner with the mother in-law and watching Eastenders.

I don't see any commitments in any contracts anywhere about spending festive seasons away from home. The players have every right to want late December \ early January at home and for the ECB to deliberately act counter to player wishes would be pure stupidity.

Cricket is not the most important thing in life.

That said, it's a) odd that we'll be playing in India just 3 years after we last played there; b) annoying to get a 2-Test series at the best of times and c) rather odd in the scheduling ITFP.

They don't mind Christmas down under so they should be expected to do the same in India or wherever. If the want Christmas, Easter or Eid off they should go do something else.

Yeah, so because they have to do it 1 year they should have to do it every year? Great.

If anything the fact they have to do it in a winter when an Australia tour is on the plate should mean they have more excuse to get out of it in other winters.

Crap really, although maybe its a blessing, only having to suffer 2 innings defeats instead of 3

We should arrange 6 Tests and no ODIs when India come back to England in revenge though

Will England mind as much if they are 2-0 down against what looks like the 2nd best Test team in the world?
