Best non-wicket taking ball ever

Was priveleged to watch Akram. He had an invisible string attached to the ball and could move it wherever, whenever. The only times I saw some thing move better than Shakira's hips.
Haha, best post. Didn't get the credit it deserved IMO.

Back in 96 Mike Selvey wrote an entire article on this ball unfortunatley cant find it anywhere on the net.

No fluke either this guy was capable of doing anything with the cricket ball, I have always maintained that Akram was an underachiever he was a special talent but his attitude let him down and that was confirmed by Imran.
Who said he underachieved. He took wickets in tests at 23.62 and in ODIs went for under 4 runs per over and took wickets at 23.52 runs per wicket.

That Akram delivery was pure brilliance. Better than Waqar's IMO. That Gul delivery that took out Sarwan is up there too.

I dont think the economy in ODIs can really be improved. As for the average, compare him to any other left arm pacer and just see how amazing his record is. It is hard to take wickets being left handed, over or around the wicket, it is hard to get an LBW as it to beat the bat and hit the stumps. The main way to score wickets is to catch the edge and this relies on the batsman dealing with your swing enough to catch a tickle on it.

At one stage he was the best bet to break Kapil record, took just 100 odd test wickets in last 7 yrs of his career.
Not true. 130 wickets.

1996 (29y 212d) 5 199.4 530 22 6/48 10/106 24.09 2.65 54.4 1 1
1997 (30y 212d) 5 147.1 408 23 4/42 7/118 17.73 2.77 38.3 0 0
1998 (31y 212d) 6 240.5 630 20 5/52 8/99 31.50 2.61 72.2 1 0
1999 (32y 212d) 8 257.3 757 29 4/30 5/69 26.10 2.93 53.2 0 0
2000 (33y 212d) 9 273 629 26 6/61 11/110 24.19 2.30 63.0 3 1
2001 (34y 212d) 3 106 296 5 2/59 3/148 59.20 2.79 127.2 0 0
2002 (35y 212d) 1 2.4 5 0 - - - 1.87 - 0 0

In those 7 years, he played 37 matches and missed 15 matches. Among occassions those were cases of being dropped if I am not wrong.

I think I agree with Xuhaib. Akram probably did underachieve, and that's the amazing aspect of his career. He had a tremendous record in both forms, and any player if offered that would grab at it with both hands, yet he probably could have done even better if he had the application some other modern day professionals have to their cricket.

The same goes for his batting too, if you want to chuck that in.

Still an amazing cricketer. One of the best to watch.

I think the word 'underachiever' perfectly describes Wasim's batting. Anybody who watched any of his late inning knocks in ODIs or his double against Zimbabwe will attest to that.
