Go to 48, there isn't much point having 40 because it won't work out.

Yea yea I know, it's just that I had something in mind, but forget that let's just stick with
48.

Dare i say it but... Giles. I can't ever remember him dropping a catch, and his fielding at Gully and in the Outfield at the Gabba was superb.

Brett Lee could argue a good case as well, gun outfielder.

Haha, I'll give you "servicable for a guy who has had several hip operations", but superb? He's basically geriatric.

Hard worker, but at least 75% of fielders in international cricket are better.

Brett Lee is one of the better specialist outfielders ever, and his fielding off his own bowling is top notch, so he has a reasonable case. I don't think he's in the best 48 fielders of all time though.

Chris Cairns? He had the strongest arm in international cricket for a while and was a superb outfielder

Chris Harris should definitely be there if any NZers are going to be on that list, he was our best ever for sure.

Yeah there only one Lanka fielder, Dishan that is better then TBH, maybe two, Mahela, if drop catches don't mean much interms of a fielders' rating.

Ajay Jadeja and Roshan Mahanama have to be in the list as well. Dilshan and Mahanama are the only Sri Lankans who should be in the list.

Yeah Mahanama and McMillian IMO are must, both are quality slipsmen. Also Chris Harris has to be in there. NZ have produced some quality fielders over the years, but he would have to be their number one.

Alright Turbinator. Based on everyone's responses, here are the changes I think you should make.

Add Eknath Solkar, Chris Harris, Monty Noble, Matthew Hayden, Aakash Chopra, Rahul Dravid, Shane Warne, Brian McMillan, Chris Cairns, Ajay Jadeja and Roshan Mahanama

Remove Younis Khan, Shaun Pollock and Mahela Jayawardene

That'll give you 48.

Add Marvan Atapattu as well. Drop either Malik, Tendulkar or Lara. Probably Malik.
What why would you add Atapattu the guy is worse then Mahela. Also i think there is a few Zimbabweans and Bangladesh players we have over looked. Who would be a lot better then Lara, Tendulkar, Younis and Malik.

Agreed. Apart from the changes I mentioned earlier, Lara, Tendulkar and Malik probably need to go.

Someone needs to come up with better options though ... Ijaz Ahmed?
Grant Flower and Alistair Campbell should probably be in the list for Zimbabwe. Paul Strang?

One from the earlier days, APF "Percy" Chapman:

Obviously I only know him by repute, but his cricinfo profile speaks of him as a,

"superlative fielder" & that "His capacious hands made him a brilliant close-to-the-wicket fielder, and some of his catches were miraculous: he caught Bradman in both innings of the Test match at Lord's in 1930 with catches that are still spoken of."

Grant Flower was a top fielder off of his own bowling. I can remember him taking a few fantastic caught & bowleds in the Tri-Series here in Aust.
