Think you could name a superstar for England, Flintoff?

De Villiers would get a C/B in my book, Ntini an A, Prince a D.. You have quite a pessimistic view, I think our decline will only be related to test match cricket, but we'll have to see what happens..
Flintoff was given an A. The conclusion was the lack of a great batsman, something that having Flintoff does not change.

Ntini is certainly not an A. A is reserved for the best in the world. He is a small step below that.

De Villiers may go on to be a B but I dont think there is enough evidence to give that right now.

Prince, may be a D. I was trying to keep my own dislike of him out of the equation. Maybe I eneded up overrating him. I dont know.

I certainly dont think Im pessimistic, just realistic. There are few real quality players coming through to take over from the older guys.

Gilchrist is the best wicket-keeper/batsman of all time, thus is an A.
5 years ago, No doubt. But now he is a very good player rather than the attack destroying genius he was.

Hussey only a B?
Exceptional player but only played 11 tests and is essentially unproven. If he was an A (which I am using to mean the best in the world) dont you think he may have been given more opportunities.

I rate him highly, and a B grade is a high grade.

I'm sure some people out there thought that was funny. Finding them would be like looking for a needle in a haystack though.

Considering A+, is an all time great then Shoiab Akthar deserves a B, after all, playing games actually makes you quite a good player, he does not.

Asif is a C+, for his brilliant start.

England

Trescothick B, bad run recently but has been our best opener since Boycs
Strauss C+, done well, not sure hes class yet
Cook B think this guys the real deal, could be the best bat for ing-er-land, in many a year
Pietersen C+, enigmatic, could be anything, including south African
Collingwood C-, great fielder, average bat, terrible bowler
Bell, C, potentially better, hes got technique, skill and belief
Read C+, doing well for this portion of his career, but we still have to wait and see.
Mahmood C, better batsmen then plunkers, and has potential with the ball
Harmison B. great in conditions that suit, otherwise not much
Hoggard C+, whole-hearted tryer, better then 100s of crap English bowlers before him
Panesar C+, has done a job, but we'll see on different types of pitches

Flintoff A, hes a god

Geraint Jones D

Simon Jones B, when he plays

Jimmy Anderson, B-, for his last test appearance, and his one-day record, the guy needs to be fit more, though

Australia in tests.

Nathan Bracken- C
Stuart Clark- U
Michael Clarke- C (potential B)
Adam Gilchrist- A
Jason Gillespie- C?
Matthew Hayden- B
Brad Hodge- C
Michael Hussey- B
Phil Jaques- C (potential A)
Michael Kasprowicz- D
Simon Katich- C
Justin Langer- B
Brett Lee- B
Glenn McGrath- A
Damien Martyn- C
Ricky Ponting- A
Andrew Symonds- D
Shane Warne- A
Shane Watson- D (potential B)

Clark's unknown for me because he simply hasn't played in a wide enough range of conditions to make a judgement. Based on his efforts in South Africa he's a B, but he could easily end up a D. Gillespie could be anywhere from a B to an E depending on which Gillespie shows up.

If Jaques is a potential A then so is Clarke IMO.
Yeah maybe, but I think Jaques has done a bit more to show he could be a real class act. Dominating several seasons in FC cricket in Australia and England etc. Clarke has just shown the odd bit of brilliance, along with being consistently good in ODIs.
