I think that team would do really well chasing, but as far as batting first is concerned - oh dear. How do you defend any total with just 3 specialist bowlers?
Nigel Clough's Black and White Army, beating Forest away with 10 men

No call to bring in Bangar. The batting allrounders in Yuvraj, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Mongia have been serving India quite well recently. It is much better to have a regular bowler in his position(looks like that's going to be Srinath).

    The team could be:

    Ganguly
    Sehwag
    Laxman/Mongia
    Tendulkar
    Dravid
    Yuvraj
    Kaif
    Srinath
    Khan
    Harb
    Kumble/Agarkar

which I suppose is the current team. If they want to include another pacer in SA, the Laxman/Mongia could be taken out, I guess and come to think of it, in that situation, a steady line-and-length bowler like Bangar could make a difference and add some stability in both batting and bowling departments. I don't think blooding a new pace bowler between now and the WC will be such a good idea, but you never know.

So do you think he's a good option or a bad one - you've said both in the same post!
marc71178 - President and founding member of AAAS - we don't only appreciate when he does well, but also when he's not quite so good!

Anyone want to join the Society?

Beware the evils of Kit-Kats - they're immoral apparently.

True. At the beginning of the post, I was commenting on l_o_d's selection and commented that Bangar was not required. I still think he isn't. Then, I brought out my list. If you notice, there are significant differences between the two lists. In that list, if Laxman/Mongia isn't playing so that the pace bowling can be strengthened in SA, then there could be some merit in bringing in Bangar. If you notice, my team already has Srinath, Khan, Harb & Kumble/Agarkar. Bangar could be the 5th bowler and 7th batsman and in that role could bring more stability to both departments. I guess it was a little confusing and seemed like a contradiction. Sorry.

That's fine, I was interested in your view of Bangar as I like him as a player and feel he could have a big role in the World Cup.
