MS Dhoni vs K Akmal!!

Mecnun

U19 Debutant
Okay, yes he had a couple of shockers but then I remember a couple of cracking catches as well. Remember the Trescothic off the boot and then a catch of Shoiab in the 3d ODI where he took it one handed at full stretch ..upwards. He shows promise and in the current world wicket keeper hierarchy I would place behind Gilly and perhaps a little behind Sangrkara.

TBF I didn't say that, I said he looked the better keeper on the evidence of the test series. I meant it as an insult!
From what I've heard, did he actually drop anything all tour?

If so, then it's amazing how he'll still get criticism even when he actually does a good job...

Yeah, Jones was actually very tidy with the gloves all tour. I can't think of anything he missed. If it was the first time you'd seen either keeper (and it was the first time I'd seen Akmal) you'd say Jones looked the safer pair of hands.

kamran akmal is a very very good keeper ... dhoni is just a very good batsman on sub-continent pitches.....who can just stand behind the wickets and clap and do nothing .. i think dravid is a better keeper than dhoni ... kamran akmal no doubt missed a couple of easy chances .. but apart from that his keeping has been flawless and he took 2 or three amazing catches .. i remember a beautiful catch by kamran .. in lahore when he took the catch of peiterson .....and i need not say anything about his batting .. he has shown great character as a batsman has a pretty decent technique but i have'nt seen his batting on bowler friendly pitches
dhoni is no doubt a good batsman .. by faaaaaaaaar kamran akmal .. is a better keeper and hence a better cricketer .. so my choice is Kamran Akmal

Geraint shelled one leg side chance off Ian Bell, standing up - very few keepers would have held it.

Kamran was an interesting case, he took a handful of superb catchies, but there were a couple of well, what we spent the summer calling Geraint moments - the Ian Bell stumping stands out the most, I'd have been annoyed at missing that.

I say Akmal at present. Excellent keeper and a batsman who is rapidly gaining in recognition.

It'll be very intresting to see how Dhoni's career progresses: Will he do well at test level or is he only going to be a one day specialist ?

To be fair, I think his keeping has improved since he came into the Indian side - he's obviously been working with the likes of Ian Fraser since the Zimbabwe tour.
I really do feel though, at best he will be a competent keeper rather than someone truly brilliant with the gloves.

As for his batting, he's no doubt got a feakish talent for the big shots....but I think he will face some big tests over the coming year when he will face high quality bowling in bothe formats of the game. Only then will we be able to make a proper assessment of how good a batsman he is.
