Warne becuase:
1) he doesn't chuck his wrongun. (im not going to comment on the rest) 2) hes far more dangerous on the majority of the pitches in the world (the ones that don't help spin) . 3) his bowling is keeps getting better and better, hes always looking for ways to improve. 4) better cricket brain overall.

Its pure rubbish that Warne is more dangerous on wickets that don't assist spinners because its legendary Muttiah Muralitharan who can spin on every track & gets most of his wickets on them.Murali is better than Warne because Warne has most of times been crap in the absence of McGrath.Warne takes lot of wickets because he gets support of fine fast bowlers but Murali is always under more pressure because he alone has to do the job for his team due to the lack of good quality bowlers.Even if we suppose for a moment that Warne is more useful on non-supporting wickets(which he is not),then before rating him above Murali, place Imran Khan,Waqar Younis,Wasim Akram,Shoaib Akhtar,Sarfaraz Nawaz,Sikander Bakht & Fazal Mahmood miles above McGrath,Marshall,Ambrose,Lillee & Hadlee because they played for the most of their careers on wickets which are known as graveyard for fast bowlers.By the end of his career "The Little Magician" will be 100s of miles ahead any other spinner.Of course,Warne & Murali both are great bowlers but Murali is ahead of Warne.

I think Warne is better at thinking of ways to dismiss batsman and places more fear into the eyes of batters, and with fear comes a bigger likelyhood of wickets.

From what I've seen, Murali was a better bowler before he really got that doosra to go big - when it was more of a "topspinner" than a "wrong-un" as his variation. He seemed - to me, anyways - to try and out-think the batsman more, now he just sets them up for the doosra.
Just wondering, do Murali's stats improve or get worse when Vaas isn't playing? I wouldn't be suprised if they improved, because he's more used to having the attack riding on him in the role he plays. I think it's unfair in a way to judge Warne on something that he doesn't have to do the majority of the time - play without McGrath. And under the same logic, I think it explains why the argument that "Warne doesn't get to play on turning pitches" that often doesn't really hold that much weight for mine. Your a product of your beginnings, and Warne did all of his junior bowling on Australian pitches - thus his game is more suited, generally, to the bounce of Australian pitches. Just as Murali is more suited, as such, to turning pitches - but the man can turn it on glass ![]() Just some thoughts for debate, I guess. |

Warne vs Murali? I think the real question is McNamara vs Warne & Murali...
Keep it civil..

McNamara is the New Giles - and that's just raised the bar right to the top. |
