I think we'll just have to agree to disagree tooextracool. I think Styris is better than you think. His average also dropped (below 40 I think) after the Pakistan series, but a good series against SA pushed his average right back up there. His 170 was a great innings and I don't see any reason why he won't continue to perform, or why he can't do it again. Yes he's a had a few average series and he's not the best number 4 going round but I don't see him being dropped nor should he be in my view.

Well for the up-coming series against Sri Landa I'd go with:

1) Richardson
2) Fleming
3) Fulton
4) Sinclair
5) Styris
6) Oram
7) McCullum
8) Vettori
9) Franklin/Butler
10) Tuffey (if fit)
11) Martin

It's quite a way off though, domestic form has to be taken into account. I think we have plenty of batting and we don't need 6 specialists. Oram is good enough to bat at 6 and McCullum and Vettori are solid. If we're to look at winning tests we will need 5 bowlers. Wiseman deserves his chance too, I thought he bowled well against Australia. I'm not sure you would play two spinners in NZ conditions though.

You'd open with Flem man? Thats a pretty big call, I'd be more inclined to let Pappsicle have a crack. For the SL series I think they'll go for:

Richardson
Papps
Fleming
Sinclair
Styris
Astle
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Tuffey
Butler
Martin/Wiseman12th

Though I'd go for:

Richardson
Papps
Flem
Styris
Astle
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Tuffey
Butler
Martin
Wiseman/Franklin12th

Butler = Quicker than any kiwis bar Bondy, should let him loose soon.
Sherlock was clocked at 150 in South Africa apparently, which we mentioned near the start of this thread I think. It's bit of a bugger it seems he's now either injured or Canterbury want him to warm the bench for their first SC match.

As for Butler, it seems he's already let loose...on Bracewell! This from J Millmow in the Dom Post this morning -

Butler is restricted in what he can say about how he reacted when told by Bracewell he wouldn't be required for Brisbane.

For this interview he is accompanied by NZ Cricket's media officer Anthony Clearwater and the word they've settled on is "disappointed".

But Butler's got big shoulders and a fast bowler's ego and he can't help but add: "you know what happened".

Sources suggest there was a bit of a "performance" by Butler, but then again who can blame him, and to Bracewell's credit he's been in enough dressing rooms to know that the odd tantrum is inevitable.
Home-schooled, you see. In the top 1% of students in NZ or something, athletically talented.....a tall poppy that was watered by Mummy every day instead of cut down to size by teachers and classmates. :)

Alright I was wrong then but I'm pretty sure Fleming has played at 4 more than 3
your right macka,

Fleming in Tests Batting at Position,

Opening: 6 innings, 280 runs@56.00, One Century
Three: 57 innings, 2241 runs@43.94, Five Centuries
Four: 66 innings, 2311 runs@36.10, Two Centuries

the problem is sinclair favours number 3 aswell(bracewell has said fleming will not open).

Sinclair in Tests Batting at Position,

Opening: 8 innings, 231 runs@33.00, No Centuries
Three: 27 innings, 990 runs@41.25, Three Centuries
Four: 6 innings, 125 runs@20.83, No Centuries

i think our strongest test side for the opening game against sri lanka would be:

1.Richardson
2.Papps
3.Sinclair
4.*Fleming
5.Styris
6.Astle
7.Oram
8.+McCullum
9.Vettori
10.Tuffey
11.Martin

12.Marshall
13.Franklin

I'd be willing to bet that those were hyped up radars, and also remember Sherlers would be bowling a much fuller length, that may have even been a full toss, ive seen full tosses by medium pacers clocked pretty quickly. I know Richard well enough having been his opening bowling partner for a few years in Nelson at school and through the rep grades, hes quick, but i doubt hes consistently 145+ yet. I think Buts can touch 145 consistently these days from short of a length too remember, IMO that makes him quicker.

Does anyone actually know the status of Bondy... how far away is he?
he hopes to be back for the australia in new zealand series, he's had titanium rods put in his back and he said if he breaks down again he will probaly have to quit cricket.
