Can't believe Jonny Bairstow is batting so low

For how long will English cricket leadership show step motherly love to Jonny Bairstow is beyond me. There are those who has loads and loads of "Talent". And then there is Bairstow who scores runs in every opportunity he gets in every form and level of cricket. Wake up Trevor! You want to win this Ashes don't you?

I guess 9 is technically "runs".

    I'd play him at five.
He (Alastair Cook) and his family are very much the sort of people we want the England captain and his family to be

No, but I'm happy for you to fill me in on how him going out when/how he did can be attributed to "match situation"?

The bunny Stuart Broad didn't give him much confidence, for Bairstow had to go for it. Now, waiting for your another reply with "quote unquote"

The only argument you can really make is swapping him round with Ali at the minute, but unless we're taking the gloves away from him he shouldn't bat any higher than 6 IMO. Plus he's been kinda naff for a while now.

We sometimes become rigid and therefore limit our thinking. "Only specialists should be picked in their respective positions in tests". We turn a blind eye to some of the most inspiring success stories. Steve Smith was picked as a leg spinner initially and now he's one of the best bats in the world. Virendar Sehwag was a middle order bat. But he revolutionized opening batting against new ball. Now, I am not advocating JB should open. But why is someone like Dawid Milan trusted to bat above Ali while JB who keeps making runs for Eng at every opportunity is not given more responsibility?

Bairstow and Cummins are probably in the top 3 batsmen in their respective teams. Their place in the order gives solidity at the bottom but possibly doesn't allow them to go out and make a proper score with the danger of having to play with the tail and farm the strike.

This will be Cummins' highest score for the series easily. You could make a case for him being in Australia's best 8 batsmen (in that 11), but that's about it.

    Swing low, sweeet ginger nut,
Hit a 4 and take your bat home.

Sometimes you see people write dumb things. Some times you see people write smart things.

But just occasionally, you see someone write something so stupid it staggers the imagination.
