Now we know why Shane Watson played so many test matches.

Post Ashes Australia should send a nice big fruit basket asking Rogers to stay. Play Marsh for Voges.

Failing that, Marsh in for Rogers and Glenn Maxwell in the middle order. It's about time Australia found out what he has to offer at this level.

I wonder if Maxwell succeeded in Test Cricket, if the selectors would be tempted to play him as the Moeen-esque frontline spinner and play four quicks & Marsh.

Day 2 of watching at the ground and it was still cold but at least dry. A great ground for atmosphere and only MJ briefly in the morning and the Nev/MJ partnership silenced them. But not for long.

27 wickets in 2 days and I don't think its that bad a pitch. There was movement around but the batting has made it look unplayable. I thought Vaughn made a good point about partnerships coming for both teams once the ball got to 40 overs or so old. But the batsmen in both teams were not prepared to graft long enough to get to that point. Rogers and Nevill the only 2 Aussies prepared to work hard for runs and got value.

So a poor match from Smith and the middle order does nothing. I totally agree with booting Voges and #clarkeat5 . Voges failure just makes me mad at Burns treatment. I suppose the silver lining is he looks good by not being a part of this.

I though MJ and Nate bowled well with expensive support from Haze. Starc was trash. Didn't deserve a wicket.

Well played England. I hope Nevill can drag it out a bit tomorrow.

On Clarke. He seemed to be getting back to some form pre Ashes just not batting long. What I've seen today and yesterday looked like Ponting at the end. I hope I'm wrong because the team isn't ready for it. He has to go back to 5 and hope that extra protection helps. I'd say 6 was an option if MM or Nevill could bat 5.

So crazy now that when Clarke is batting I expect him quickly removed. So many ashes series where his arrival has tempered the joy of the wicket that has brought him to the crease

Sad to see as age wise you'd think he should be in his prime but obviously he's always had his injury issues, I mean he struggled fitness wise on his first tour over here.

As an Englishman I'm not complaining but as a cricket fan I'd like to see him do a bit of a Ponting, one final revival after the urn is gone before giving it up before the next series, whenever that is (presumably in a few weeks)

Worst thing to happen to Australia was stumps

Hairy chested Boof will get in Nev's ear overnight: "Look mate, we have to up the ante here. Go on the attack". It's our way

He might have scored bagfulls in CC but I doubt he's faced anyone close to as rapid as MJ.
During the last Ashes series in Oz, it was rumoured that there had been a blow-up in the England camp as a result of Flower telling Bairstow that he needed to grow a pair (or words to that effect) after Melbourne

Obviously a brute of a ball here but he wasn't exactly hurrying to get back & across either

And smalishah's avatar is the most classy one by far Jan certainly echoes the sentiments of CW

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

I hate to say I told you so on Voges, but look at his FC record in Australia

He's 36 years old, and has one outstanding Summer...and that's enough for him to be a key pillar in an overseas Ashes defence?

I was so disappointed with the number of people on here pumping up his initial selection

Surely Nevill and M Marsh need to switch places. You can't have the most patient batsman running out of partners in a lineup with a tendency to play a lot of shots when it needs to bat time.

I had the strangest vision when I woke up that Warner was out on 76.

Gutted tbh, could have been a McGrath level fortune teller.
