Can't help but think Giles is merely being rested for this game, and that he'll play in Brisbane.
After so long out, it would be lunacy to have him miss the only proper warm up game then pick him.

Hoggard at 8 it is then!

am i the only one that would rather Penasar than Giles [being an aussie fan]

im not sure... Panesar seems to be struggling to find wickets in these wickets.. where they don't offer much turn to the offies... however Giles bowled well at the SCG the other day and seems to give it more air...

anyway

good little recovery by these two... have dug the team out of some trouble....

3/82
Bell 23
PC 23

two spinners are bowling atm.. i think these two much prefer spin than the pace.. for SA anyway

100 partnership is up

Bell 51
PC 53

more than half of the runs have come off the spinners (78) and they've only bowled a third of the amount of overs...

Well, the dullest partnership in the world has done well for us. With Cook, Collingwood, Bell, don't expect fireworks, but runs are very possible:dry:

No he didn`t. He didn`t look threatening at all, and his wickets were all caught in the deep. Whiiiiinggggge.

Bailey and Cullen have been hammered, really. Tait and Gillespie seem to have gone okay, particularly Tait who has three wickets now.

No mention of the new ball being taken in the commentary.

edit: Taken now.

Gillespie knocks over Pietersen and then Tait leaves the field with an apparent injury of some sort, mid-over. I guess that settles his place in the team then.

Bring back Gillespie for the 1st test as he has 2-25 off 18 overs and oh yeah, he has a double hundred in his last test

England would be reasonably satisfied with their batting heading into the first test after the disastrous start in Canberra. All the specialist batsman have had one significant innings after Bell and Collingwood's efforts today. It's an important knock for Jones currently.

How much longer will S.A. persist with Dan Cullen? His FC record is far from flash, and he really struggles to take wickets.

Well done by England today.

good day for England... concern for Tait :(

Englands middle order could be a huge thorn for Australia... but we got our trump card under our sleeves and they haven't seen him yet this summer... SK Warne :)

Has he changed much since the last time we did see him?

For as long as the Australian selectors show interest in him, that's my guess anyway.

Bell & Collingwood putting toether a nice partnership, albeit a slow one.
Slow runs are better than no runs - here's hoping the other less thoughtful batsmen in the side take note...

A strike rate of 55.00 (Bell 132 from 240 balls) and 46.51 (Colly) isn't really that slow, it's about what you would want from your batsmen after the first three bats went for 22 runs.

Thats about right, not to mention that warm ups are more about how much time you spend at the crease than how many runs you score anyways.
