Bunch of matches tonight and tomorrow:

Asia:

09.30, grp 1, Brisbane: Australia vs Qatar (Qatar unbeaten before this long away trip, which should be easy meat for Aussie football on the up.)
10.32, grp 1, Saitama: Japan vs Uzbekistan (conversely, Uzbek football are on the way down - epitomised by 0-3 by Kuruvchi to Adelaide - and with a loss here the Uzbeks are as good as out of the Cup.)
11.00, grp 2, Seoul: South Korea vs United Arab Emirates (UAE with two narrow losses, and unlikely to come out of East Asia with much. The Emirates have never beaten South Korea away from home.)
12.30, grp 2, Tehran: Iran vs North Korea (Iran have won the last five against North Korea, and never lost; they're also back on form after a dismal run in spring threatened to eliminate them. However, North Korea do top the group after a draw with South Korea.)

Europe:

15.00, grp 4, Moscow: Russia vs Finland
15.30, grp 3, Teplice: Czech Republic vs Slovenia (the recovery starts here for the Czechs, who trail by six points against the less fancied Slovenes - they're 7-1 with the bookies. A loss here would be critical for the Czechs, however.)
16.00, grp 2, Riga: Latvia vs Israel (Latvia's chance of keeping in the hunt for second - they've already dropped points against Greece at home and can't afford any more.)
16.00, grp 7, Kaunas: Lithuania vs Faroe Islands
17.00, grp 9, Oslo: Norway vs Netherlands (Norwegian news media claim a win is needed - personally, I think Norway can make do with a draw, as I fancy 12 more points will be enough for second. Though 12 points from six games pretty much implies an unbeaten run.)
17.30, grp 1, Ta'Qali: Malta vs Hungary
17.30, grp 8, Tbilisi: Georgia vs Bulgaria
18.00, grp 9, Reykjavík: Iceland vs FYR Macedonia
18.15, grp 2, Luxembourg: Luxembourg vs Moldova
18.15, grp 5, Zenica: Bosnia and Hercegovina vs Armenia (Bosnia have been unlucky so far, but if they drop points to Armenia, they can wave goodbye to South Africa.)
18.15, grp 6, Zagreb: Croatia vs Andorra
18.30, grp 2, Pireas: Greece vs Switzerland (a Greek side in storming form should dismiss Switzerland, which would condemn the Swiss to hunting for second.)
18.30, grp 3, Bratislava: Slovakia vs Poland (Slovakia fell in Slovenia, while Poland are still unbeaten.)
18.30, grp 5, Tallinn: Estonia vs Turkey
18.30, grp 6, Minsk: Belarus vs England
18.30, grp 7, Wien: Austria vs Serbia (After the dissolution of Yugoslavia, Serbia have fell behind their smaller neighbours Croatia in footballing prowess, but a win against former owners Austria would help them on the way to winning a closely fought group.)
18.45, grp 3, Belfast: Northern Ireland vs San Marino
18.45, grp 4, Mönchengladbach: Germany vs Wales
18.45, grp 5, Brussel: Belgium vs Spain (Belgium hope to continue their fine form, but are 4-1 outsiders against a Spanish side who hasn't conceded yet.)
18.45, grp 8, Dublin: Republic of Ireland vs Cyprus
18.50, grp 8, Lecce: Italy vs Montenegro
19.45, grp 1, Braga: Portugal vs Albania

CONCACAF (matches starting Thursday GMT):

00.00, grp 2, Kingston: Jamaica vs Honduras (last chance saloon for Jamaica; and even then they'll have to hope that Honduras doesn't beat Mexico.)
00.00, grp 1, La Habana: Cuba vs Guatemala (dejected Cubans have one last chance of qualifying, but with 14 conceded goals in four games, it looks unlikely. A big win would help them keep T&T at bay by goal difference.)
01.11, grp 1, Port of Spain: Trinidad and Tobago vs USA (any point is a victory for Trinidad, given that Guatemala travel to the States in November and are unlikely to take points there, while T&T should beat Cuba - a point here would take goal difference out of the equation.)
02.00, grp 2, Edmonton: Canada vs Mexico (Mexico qualify with a win here, which shouldn't be above them.)
02.00, grp 3, San José: Costa Rica vs Haiti (Haiti need a win, an unlikely result tstl by the 12-1 outsiders.)
02.00, grp 3, San Salvador: El Salvador vs Suriname (Suriname need something like a seven-goal win here to have a hope. Not likely.)

South America:

Tuesday 20.00, La Paz: Bolivia 2-2 Uruguay (River Plate man Sebastian Abreu headed in the 89th-minute equaliser to save an important point for Uruguay. Bolivia's chances receding aws.)
21.10, Asunción: Paraguay vs Peru (top against bottom. Recent results and home advantage means Peru are 7-1 outsiders.)
Thursday 00.15, Santiago: Chile vs Argentina (Chile are top four, but look unlikely to defend that status. A loss here would bring the chasing pack awfully close, while Argentina could get considerable breathing room. Equally, a win for Chile would mean Argentina were back in the thick of things.)
Thursday 01.00, Puerto la Cruz: Venezuela vs Ecuador (both sides out of the top five - Venezuela embarrassed themselves by conceding three goals in twenty minutes against Brazil, and probably aren't World Cup
Thursday 01.00, Rio de Janeiro: Brazil vs Colombia (rather like Chile-Argentina, a match where the more fancied team should get a large cushion, but if they lose they will struggle.)

First time Ive popped into this thread and some good stuff from Hak.

Ill be sure to check in again regularly.

I hadnt heard about the violence at Bul vs Italy though. Good result though, as they were 9-1 to win the game.

Can't edit, so here's the summary.

Asia

09.30, grp 1, Brisbane: Austra lia 4-0 Qatar (Australian media had good reason to take out the superlatives after a confident victory. Happy now?)
10.32, grp 1, Saitama: Japan 1-1 Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan's prime goalkicker Maksim Shatskikh prodded home a 27th-minute goal, and despite plenty of opportunities, Japan had to be content with one point. Uzbekistan remain outsiders, though a big home win over Qatar will put them on level pegging for third place.)
11.00, grp 2, Seoul: South Korea 4-1 United Arab Emirates (a confident display sees UAE pretty much desperate for two home wins, as they fall further adrift of the top teams. Goal difference sends them to the top ahead of the non-playing Saudis.)
12.30, grp 2, Tehran: Iran 2-1 North Korea (North Korea poor in defence to slip to fourth place in the group, and they will need some special results to field a serious threat to the top three.)

Code:
2 matches unless stated
Group 1 Group 2
Australia 5-0 6 South Korea 5-2 4
Japan 4-3 4 Saudi Arabia3-2 4

Bahrain 3-4 1 North Kor(3)4-4 4
Uzb'stan (3)1-5 1 UAE (3) 3-8 0
Europe

15.00, grp 4, Moscow: Russia 3-0 Finland (two goalmouth desperations led to own goals, before Arshavin dribbled through for the third. Easy win.)
15.30, grp 3, Teplice: Czech Republic 1-0 Slovenia (Slovenia had their chances in the first half, but couldn't capitalise, and the Czechs took over in the second half for a deserved win.)
16.00, grp 2, Riga: Latvia 1-1 Israel (a late equaliser from Vladimir Kolesnichenko kept some measure of respectability for the Latvians, who have taken one point from their two home games against two of the three strongest sides.)
16.00, grp 7, Kaunas: Lithuania 1-0 Faroe Islands (an early goal from Danilevičius, his third of the qualifying series, means Lithuania stutters on. Doubt they'll manage to double their points tally, which seems to be a minimum requirement.)
16.30, grp 8, Tbilisi: Georgia 0-0 Bulgaria (only the goalkeeper Georgi Petkov kept Bulgaria in the game, after Abu Dhabi Light Blues midfielder Martin Petrov hobbled off with a knee injury.)
17.00, grp 9, Oslo: Norway 0-1 Netherlands (though Norway controlled possession and occasionally looked daangerous through Carew, they never manged to set him up nearer than six yards from goal. Mark van Bommel's volley shot from the outside of the area found its way through a bunch of players, including a passive, but offside, Andre Ooijer, ensuring a 1-0 win. In injury time, the referee correctly turned down a penalty shout against Elyounoussi and a free kick shout from 18 yards against Grindheim. Could see why Steulen is skeptical of Huntelaar, he was dire.)
17.30, grp 1, Ta'Qali: Malta 0-1 Hungary (club nomad Sándor Torghelle notched up a first-half goal)
18.00, grp 9, Reykjavík: Iceland 1-0 FYR Macedonia (Stabæk's Veigar Páll Gunnarsson scored after a free kick caused chaos in the Vardar-Macedonian box. Iceland jump to third, though all other teams have a game in hand on them - at present, this group is looking like a prime candidate for worst runner-up.)
18.15, grp 2, Luxembourg: Luxembourg 0-0 Moldova (Luxembourg refuse to acknowledge their perennial last-place status, fighting out a 0-0 draw.)
18.15, grp 5, Zenica: Bosnia and Hercegovina 4-1 Armenia (after the second demolition of a minnow, Bosnia have the second strongest goal difference in the group. Yet they're still fourth, trailing runners-up Turkey by two points, and are yet to play a resurgent Belgium (oxymoron alert).)
18.15, grp 6, Zagreb: Croatia 4-0 Andorra (the third goal put Croatia ahead of Ukraine on goal difference.)
18.30, grp 2, Pireas: Greece 1-2 Switzerland (a toothless Greece were outplayed by Switzerland, who earned their victory despite the setback of a 68th-minute equaliser. A fine setup of (N')Kufo ensured the winner, even though Greece had a meek header on goal in injury time. Earlier, Alexander Frei had netted a penalty given after Yourkas Seitaridhis had fouled Behrami.)
18.30, grp 3, Bratislava: Slovakia 2-1 Poland (Hooligans clashed with police before the game, though the hosts came through with credit despite Ebi Smolarek capitalising after he was played through on the empty net in the 70th minute. However, after miscommunication between Boruc and the Polish defenders, Sesták made it 1-1. A counter-attack followed Poland's kick-off, and after Sestak's shot had gone through the Polish pinball, it found its way to the net.)
18.30, grp 5, Tallinn: Estonia 0-0 Turkey (a hobbled Turkey were embarrassed, only managing to take over second place thanks to David Villa's freak strike.)
18.30, grp 6, Minsk: Belarus 1-3 England (an early Gerrard net - thanks to a limp goalie - was cancelled out by an equally limp marking effort on a cross, but in the second half England came through.)
18.30, grp 7, Wien: Austria 1-3 Serbia (Austria back to their pre-2008 form that caused an internet campaign to withdraw from their own European Championships. Three goals after 24 minutes helped put Serbia in a decent position to clinch top two. Austria are five points adrift and still have to go to Paris and Belgrade - their chances appear slim.)
18.45, grp 3, Belfast: Northern Ireland 4-0 San Marino
18.45, grp 4, Mönchengladbach: Germany 1-0 Wales (the game came alive in the second half, with a number of hard strikes from Germany; a 25-yard blister into the far corner of the net from Piotr Trochowski gave Germany the win and a four-point cushion, and though Wales didn't embarrass themselves they go pointless from the game.)
18.45, grp 5, Brussel: Belgium 1-2 Spain (undeterred by Sonck's early strike, Spain mounted a comeback, triumphing after an 88th-minute header from David Villa. Belgium unfortunate, as they opened ferociously and created plenty of chances - though one of the largest, in injury time, was gifted by Guiza. Spain, England and the Netherlands are the only remaining teams with a perfect record.)
18.45, grp 8, Dublin: Republic of Ireland 1-0 Cyprus (despite recent CL performances and a promising Euro qualifying series, the tree is not growing into the heavens for Cypriot football - Ireland open up a four-point gap to the remaining teams, who seem content with fighting out draws with each other.)
18.50, grp 8, Lecce: Italy 2-1 Montenegro (like Finland, Montenegro had the unfortunate experience of netting more goals than their opponents, yet finding the wrong net to lose the game. Despite Italian-residing Mirko Vučinić equalling club teammate Aquilani's early effort, Tanasijević - a Serb reared and raised in what is now the capital of Kosovo (nationality is fluid in the Balkans) - deflected Aquilani's second shot into his own net - though some sources give the goal to the Roma striker. A somewhat remarkable feat, as in 133 club appearances in the Russian Super League Tanasijević is yet to score.)
19.45, grp 1, Braga: Portugal 0-0 Albania (both teams advanced ahead of Sweden after a goalless draw; where Albania has found a team from remains to be explained.)

Paraguay are still goalless against Peru 45 minutes into the first half. In friendlies today, mildly remarkable results; Bahrain were toppled by European minnow Azerbaijan, while South Africa showed there is some quality in the side as they beat Ghana 2-1.

If it weren't for the crapness of the Qatar goalkeeper, and Quintana's terrible finishing, scoreline might have looked a little more respectable. That said, it was one of the better performances from the 'roos in recent times, especially in the final 3rd.

Watched the Belgium - Spain game and it should of been 2-2 as Fellaini had a goal incorrectly disallowed (he was judged to have been off side) IMO.

Good win from the aussies, though as stated if qatar could keep a ball on the ground we would have conceded at least 2

CONCACAF (matches starting Thursday GMT):

00.00, grp 2, Kingston: Jamaica 1-0 Honduras (Vålerenga's Luton Shelton - currently being paid 2.5 million Jamaican dollars per club appearance - netted the only goal of the match, leaving Jamaica with a decent hope of reaching the final round. Their goal difference is still so weak that they rely on Mexico bucking the form book to beat Honduras, however.)
00.00, grp 1, La Habana: Cuba 2-1 Guatemala (an unknown youngster scored the winner for Cuba, leaving Gold Cup quarter-finalists Guatemala needing a win at 1,600 meters altitude in their final game to repeat their feat from 2006 and reach the last six. Trinidad and Tobago's result means Cuba are out regardless.)
01.11, grp 1, Port of Spain: Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 USA (a perfect day for Trinidad, as both results went their way. Goals by 77-year-olds Latapy and Yorke sent the Soca Warriors right back on course for the next round.)
02.00, grp 2, Edmonton: Canada 2-2 Mexico (a draw for Mexico - helped by an intriguing referee call to gift Mexico a free kick after a Mexican's elbow hit a Canadian defender, which resulted in a goal - sees them pretty much through, as Jamaica will need a trouncing of Canada to go through. The first story on Canadian sports sites: Philadelphia reach the MLB World Series...)
02.00, grp 3, San José: Costa Rica 2-0 Haiti (easy dominance for Costa Rica sews up the group.)
02.00, grp 3, San Salvador: El Salvador 2-0 Suriname (another easy win means El Salvador reaches the final six for the first time since 1998.)

Qualification scenarios:
Group 1: Trinidad and Tobago qualify with a point, or with a loss if Guatemala do not win.
Group 2: Mexico qualify with a point against Honduras - realistically both teams go through with that result (unless Jamaica beat Canada by ten). Jamaica qualify with a win if Honduras lose or win by buckets at home.

South America:

Tuesday 20.00, La Paz: Bolivia 2-2 Uruguay (River Plate man Sebastian Abreu headed in the 89th-minute equaliser to save an important point for Uruguay. Bolivia's chances receding aws.)
21.10, Asunción: Paraguay 1-0 Peru (though struggling to find the net with Santa Cruz injured, Paraguay survived with a 1-0 win against the league's bottom dwellers, and look more and more certain to reach South Africa.)
Thursday 00.15, Santiago: Chile 1-0 Argentina (defying my ill-advised comments, Chile won - rather easily it looked on the highlights Norwegian TV gave - to take their first win over the Argentinians in qualifying since 1973.)
Thursday 01.00, Puerto la Cruz: Venezuela 3-1 Ecuador (Ecuador failed to lengthen Venezuela's four-game losing streak, though the fans appear to have deserted them - against Chile, 38,000 turned up in the Olimpico Luis Ramos, today only 14,000 watched as Venezuela secured the win with two late goals.)
Thursday 01.00, Rio de Janeiro: Brazil 0-0 Colombia (another goalless match for Colombia sees Dunga's Brazil booed off. Again.)

Uruguay can be happy with a draw, those countries at high altitude are never easy to play in, would not be a horrible result. Hak, I can guess there a lot of calls to give Dunga the arse?
