Regarding Powell & Big Hitters report

Tim

Cricketer Of The Year
I read the report written by Orin to do with Ricardo Powell & strike-rates, however there is one player who strikes higher than Afridi & Powell currently.

Andre Adams - 103.34
Shahid Afridi - 101.43
Ricardo Powell - 101.12

Virender Sehwag has got one of about 100, and has got the best average by far out of all those 3 players.

Sehwag averaging 36, holds the record for 4 centuries under 80 balls, and has a SR of 100 or 101

I think the record is for players having a S/R over 100 WITH more than 1000 runs at ODI level which Andre Adams obviously doesn't satisfy that particular criteria....as for Sehwag hasn't his strrike rate dropped a bit below 100 recently(i don't know)???

My second point is that Afridi is very special because he's been able to keep the high S/R for so long.....but then again he hasn't been keeping his place in the Pakistani side very well.....

Rik

Cricketer Of The Year
Very special? A few years ago he played loads of shots and usually got a quick 50. Now it's 6 or out, which helps the strike rate but not his average which is now down to a mediocre 23.

State Captain
Yeah, Sehwag is at 99 I think...

As for Afridi, the only reason he's been able to keep it is, he's always scoring 21(18) or 15(12) or 10(5) and getting out

A boundary or 2, a six at the most and boom...he's gone...

most of the time anyway...

What I was pointing at was the fact that Afridi has been able to keep it above 100% for a large number of matches.....but not that he is special in terms of talent and batting class.

Afridi's strike rate means little.
It's amazing that he's still playing for Pakistan.

Ofcourse, from a purely statistics point of view, it's good that he's maintained it over so many matches... if you forget the fact that he shouldnt have got so many.

What is Jayasurya's strike rate? I'm sure it's amazing.

Of the big hitters, IMO, Powell's and Sehwag's strike rate are pretty creditable. Both the players are going to play for quite a while.
I for one am very happy Powell is also hitting teams other than India! Watching the way he won matches with his big hitting against us, I was sure he's a *huge* prospect, but was just waiting for him to do it over a period of time, and in seaming conditions.
Sehwag.. brilliant.

Even more amazing are Gilchrist (I am sure he has a strike rate over 85), Jayasurya and Sachin.. and ofcourse Viv, who had a slightly better S/R than SRT I believe!

State Captain
I think Jayasurya and Tendulkar deserve the credit they get for their strike rate.

Jayasurya's is 89, but he's played a heck load of matches, and Tendulkar too, after 300+ maches, 86 is quite admirable, especially when accompanied by a hefty average.

Barrie, you couldn't multiply the Average by the Strike Rate ÷ 100, could you? :)

That's a good allround measure, IMO :)

That list threw up a few things:

The top strike rates all come from those with poor long-term averages (note Sehwag is not long-term yet).

Kapil only scored 1 ODI century, but what a knock it was.

Trescothick doesn't look too bad in that list.

Those that score quickly have a poor century to innings ratio in the main (only 2 get 1 every 10 innings)

krkode

State Captain
Gilchrist is highest one up there with a healthy average and a good number of matches...

If Sehwag can maintain stuff, then he could soon stay in that list... :)

Rik

Actually Trescothick will be up there too...good strike rate and good average even though it's slipping a bit that the moment. He should be back in form soon enough though :)

Im surprised to see Ian Smith so high up, a career strike rate of 99 was alot higher than I expected it would be.

krkode

State Captain
With another 218 runs Agarkar's gonna be ruling that list too :D

Right between Jayasurya and Akram at the rate he's going..

But an average of 17.29 suggests his average innings lasted less than 3 overs!

Tim

Well he was batting down at 8 for NZ, and for most of his career he was behind a reasonable batting lineup of Crowe, Wright, Coney, Andrew Jones etc.
so if he scored 17 off 3 overs most of the time then that would have been very much appreciated from a keeper.
