off to division 6 in one day cricket for ND next season after going down to fellow battlers Mashonaland. We tried our best but that doesnt mean im happy about it. At last we still have the cup to look foward to and a spot in the final would more than make up for a dismal season in the league...

Mumbai Struggle against giant to Battle for Relegation

Today Mumbai played an outstanding Somerset team in Division 4. From the outset they struggled with the ball. With an outstanding 351 Somerset set the tone for the game. With donalds outstanding 164.
The only bowler with anything to stand up was Zendaran.
But Mumbai didnt go down without a fight. After being 5/94 the game seemed over but an outstanding 174 not out by Owen and a fighting 75 not out by flintoff Mumbai batted out the overs.
Jason Pike the Manager was pleased with the effort but said the last game is going to be huge to defeat relegation.

Mashonaland scrape home over ND

Round 9 had been marked many rounds earlier as the deciding point of fifth and sixth place in Division 5. Mashonaland and ND were both desperate to avoid certain relegation, and this desperation showed in the field as an electric and agonisingly close game unfolded, with Mashonaland edging home by only two runs.

The game started in the best possible way for Mashonaland, with captain S Mushtaq winning the toss and electing to bat on a flat pitch. Ul-Haq and Malik put on an excellent opening stand of 71 before Herath struck, with Malik caught at first slip for 29. The next wicket cost 101 runs for the home side, with Eaton combining with Ul-Haq in a commanding partnership. After being troubled by Warner, Eaton was finally trapped in front, a decision that took AA Jones no time in making, and Eaton walked off with 43. Q Carver could only manange twelve before Herath took his second, thanks mainly to an astonishing catch from ND batting sensation Holland. Ul-Haq, who had been dismissed for 49 and 48 this season, found himself streaking past his first fifty and on his way to his first hundred for the season. Unfortunately for the opener, nerves got the better of him as he spooned back a simple return catch to Aldridge and was out for 98. With two new batsmen, all-rounder Arnold and keeper Petal, ND had a chance of greatly restricting the visitors. That was not to be, however, as the two put on an explosive batting display in the last ten overs that destroyed the bowlers' figures. Petal's 45 came off 32 balls, with Arnold's 43 not out off only 28. With two balls to go to reach his fifty, Petal was caught on the boundary off Aldridge on the second last ball, and Durrant came in to hit the last ball of the innings for four, leaving the visitors with a score of 285/5.

Mashonaland opened the bowling with aging paceman Ramanayake and Sami, back from a long rest after breaking his finger, while ND needed a quick start to set them off on the right course, and from the first over, keeper Sangakkara looked intent on doing that. At the other end, however, Hussain just couldn't seem to force the pace, and tight bowling from Sami eventually paid off as he took a wild swing to be caught on 2 from 15. With Holland striding to the crease, both teams knew the next part of play would be pivotal. Both he and Sangakkara took a liking to spinners Mushtaq and Burns, but they came out on top, with Mushtaq inducing a simple return catch from the keeper. Smith came in with Holland for an eighty run stand before Mushtaq had Holland bowled on 83 off 70 balls as he went for the sweep, leaving the score on 156/3. Gow and Smith batted well for fourty runs, but with Arnold (10 overs, 39/1) restricting the runs at one end, they were forced to attack Burns, who claimed Smith for 41, and had Fleming caught behind in the same over for a duck. Gow was out charging down to Arnold thanks to quick hands behind the stumps by Petal. Warner, who bowled tightly in the Mashonaland innings, tried desperately to salvage the game, with a wonderful innings. At the other end Perera also played some big shots for his 25 off 24 but Mushtaq soon got the better of him, too. With the required run rate climbing, Warner started hitting out, and brought the team within sight. Number 9 Herath just couldn't score any runs, however, his 6* coming off 13 balls, and perhaps costing ND the game. Eventually, a six was needed off the last ball, with Warner on 45, also needing a six to make his fity, with the experienced spinner Arnold bowling. Warner charged down the pitch and struck the ball on the edge of the bat, which spiralled up into the air and hit the ground only metres from the boundary before crossing over for four.

The close result means that ND are facing certain relegation, while relegation is still not out of the question for victors Mashonaland. After the game, Mashonaland manager Andyc said to the press, "When cricket this good is played, it's a shame that one of these teams is definitely being relegated, possibly both of them. It was a great game but some great all-round efforts meant that we just managed to win. Commiserations to ND and Broncoman."

Mashonaland 285/5
Ul-Haq 98, Petal 45, Arnold 43*
Herath 2/49, Aldridge 2/60, Warner 1/46

Northern Districts 283/7
Holland 83, Warner 49*, Smith 41
Mushtaq 3/61, Burns 2/60, Arnold 1/39

nsw to stay in div 1

with a good win over div 1 leaders karnataka by 5 wickets in a good display. Coming up against the div 1 leaders a win was always going to be difficult but keep there place in div 1 secure with only 1 round to go.

Karnataka got therir batting of to a solid start to hit 4 - 234 of there 50 with E Howarth 76(86), S Maxwell 90 (95) and H Wilkins with a well deserved 40 (62). Nsw bowling was far from its best with just the 5 bowlers used with M Sharif the best with 2 - 39 of 10 overs, P Peters the only other wicket taker with 2 also. Karnataka did well to keep Q Moore wicketless which was seen as q moore had afew discussions with umpires D Hair and S Taufel over a few decisions but was seen having beers with them after the game.

In reply nsw got of to a shackey start with out of form batsmen B English struggled yet again and was gone early and at 3 -75 nsw where struggling until the partnership that no doubt won the game between skipper J Kallis 88(104) and J Martin 51(74) put nsw back on track and griffith and jones got the nsw boys over the line.

whilst writing this report i thought there was 2 rounds to go however i am mistaken and with 1 round to go karnataka look to have it wrapped up, however sth australia blew there chance to take up = 1st spot as they also lost the match, with leicstershire and nsw on 9 points, sth aust 10 and kanataka 12 all they have to do is win and take the title.

last round with have a few managers very nervous coming into the last day on div one one day.

Hey Bug considering NSW is only one point in front of Kent in 5th spot, you still have to win next week to secure your place in Divsion One. Considering both our teams form it shouldn't be too hard, but you never know with VC4.

Karachi THUMP Tassie to stay in the winners race.

With only one round to go in div 5 OD the top two teams are now even on points. Karachi will play ND with WP up against the side that i just thrahsed tasmania.

The game was a excellent days work for Karachi with a mamoth 335 set by the batters, we then went out and rolled them for a stagering 66. So not a bad days work... a 269 run win.. most probably the biggest for Karachi. Best for the team was Ahmed with 103 , Cooke with 71 form 59 and Dhoni with 49. The rest chipped in with starts, although we were bowled out in the 49th over (with the last 5 wickets falling for 4 runs). The bowling was great with all bowlers taking atleast 2 wickets.

Somerset batted brilliantly to beat Mumbai but, as has been the patten all season, bowled badly. Fortunately, it has also been a pattern for the batting brilliance to far overshadow inept bowling, so we won easily. This win assures me of my first title, I think (:D)

Great stuff, only ****ed off that we let them get from 5/94 to 5/304

A pleasing performance, our bowling is not our strongest facet but on a pretty shocking Canterbury pitch we bowled Canterbury out for less than 200, Shane Bond bowling well. And then we chased and won! 5 wickets down in the end, pretty happy with the reschuffle in the line-up, just need a 4D win now :(

Underwood fires once more as Leicestershire defeat ACT in Canberra.

Leicestershire have beaten ACT by 17 runs with a great number of runs being scored. Leicestershire batted first and made a very solid 5/323 with Underwood finding last season's form with a devastating 133. Piggott chipped in with 40 as well as another 50 for Brindell all helping contribute to the sides great batting display. However, ACT in their innings were never going to throw the game away and they fought desperately to fall 17 runs short finishing 5/306 with Tweedie scoring a century. The win now opens the door for 3 teams to win the division 3 competition in the final week but Leicestershire are currently sitting 1st on NRR after overtaking ACT who have been leading for the majority of the season. The matches over the past few seasons between ACT and Leics in the one day game are now even at 2-2 with all of them being very close encounters. The victory today was much needed and a shot at promotion is now in our own hands next round as we take on Worcestershire. If we win we will at worst play off against the 5th side in division 2 which at this stage looks to be Auckland but if we gain more NRR than ACT (assuming we both win) then infact Leicestershire could take the title. Very interesting round coming up and hopefully we can get a solid win against Worcestershire.

Lancashire record first win under new coach

A bizzare game at Old Trafford saw South Australia fall 8 runs short of the 303 Lancashire had set them to win. The spectators might be inclined to deduce that the South Australian batsmen had only averages in their mind as they closed the fifty overs just 2 wickets down.

Earlier centuries from Stanton and Munir had taken Lancashire past the 300 mark to set a decent target. The Kyle Hogg had taken two quick wickets to reduce the Aussies to 16-2. But Midlane and Rangnekar registered unbeaten hundreds to bring SA back in to the game. The finish fellm short however, and Lancashire look set to stay in the top flight next season, a heavy defeat in the final match not withstanding.

With Michael Moore taking a break from documentary making to referee the match, Tasmania travelled to Karachi in search of a victory that would give them a great chance of making the play-offs.

With Karachi batting first Tasmania were probing through an early breakthrough and it came in the form of a slower ball bouncer from Pascoe, Manhus the victim. Dharmani and Dhoni then shared a rapid partnership of 40 to set the tone for the rest of the innings. Dhoni and Ghulam Ahmed continued where they left off, smashing the ball to all parts. There was a glimmer of hope when Sammels found the edge of Dhoni's bat for 49. Khan picked up where he left off however, with 32 off 25 balls. Captain Murray Goodwin could only watch as his bowlers took a hammering. After a diving Canning at cover accounted Khan, it was Cooke's turn to show what he had in the oven. He scored an unbeaten 71, offering great support to Ghulam Ahmed, who holed out the ball after bringing up a spectacular hundred. Tasmania grabbed the last 5 wickets for 4 runs, including a hat trick for Pascoe but the damage had been done.

336 was the target for Tasmania to chase, but they never even got close. Karachi's bowlers were bowling like men possessed. New ball pairing Louw and Elstub ripped through the top order, taking 2 wickets apiece. Any hope Tasmania may have had of a virtually impossible victory from there were quickly crushed by Kaye and Mishra. They shared 5 wickets between them and a brilliant run out from Ghulam Ahmed finished off the innings.

It was a crushing victory for Karachi, but there is still some hope of a play off place for Tasmania, although it would require Karachi losing to unfancied Northern Districts.

Karachi 335 all out Ghulam Ahmed 103(95) Cooke 71*(59), Pascoe 4-61.
Tasmania 66 all out W Kaye 3-29.

Glamorgan record maiden one-day win

Glamorgan will play next season in division 5 after Surrey defeated Canterbury convincingly. Despite their unfortunate position on the table Glamorgan overcame Jamaica comfortably today and achieved their first genuine victory of the one-day season.

The Glamorgan middle order set about reaching a competitive total after the top order were dismissed rather cheaply. Cole set about the resurrection making a valuable stand with Jeffrey before Chandana came in for some fireworks and entertained the crowd. The Sri Lankan hit 32 off 20 balls before he was caught behind off Quinn.

Yuvraj Cole remained there at the end unbeaten on 54 as Glamorgan posted a respectable 7/245.

The bowlers made early inroads, Ajit Agarkar dismissing Jadhav cheaply before he could get settled. Jamaica, desperately needing a win to stay in contension for the title were struggling at 4/136 before Cole was brought into the attack. The gentle spinner had immediate success dismissing inform opener Ahmed Naqvi and claiming the wickets of Salman and Weekes short over. It was a short 2 over spell from Cole but one that rewarded him the flattering figures of 3/8. Chandana then cleaned up the tail to secure an 88 run victory, one of the biggest upset of the season.

Glamorgan 7/245 (Cole 54* Bucknall 43 Quinn 3/45)

Jamaica 157 (Naqvi 48, Cole 3/8, Chandana 3/43)

Chittagong batted first and got off to a great start making an opening partnership of 108 between keeper L Payne and Captain Abedin... Abedin fell for 50 from 60 balls. this brought Madurasinghe to the crease with both payne and Madurasinghe batting awesome it was obvious that this was a batsmen wicket when Madurasinghe fell for 61 from 65 balls the score was 2 - 254 and Chittagong looking great Farhat came to the crease in the last overs of the game and Payne and Farhat hit Chittagong to a final total of 2 - 306. A huge score one that should be easy for the bowlers to defend.

Abedin 50 (60)
Madurasinghe 61(65)

Yorkshire posted their 5th one day win of the season to lift them to third on the table with a 2 wicket win over one day specialists Colts.
Things looked bad when our bowlers failed to remove Darden, who made 135. Though no one else made any scores despite a few starts. Colts batted out the 50 to be 5/247. Simpson and Nazir grabbed 2 wickets each while Hamilton got a single wicket.
The run chase started badly and we lost the first 3 wickets for 14 runs. Boxall followed soon on 18 and Yorkshire looked bad at 4/52 before Weir (69) and de Silva (46) put on a 102 run partnership to steer Yorkshire out of trouble. Simpson (22), Hamilton (28) and Gough (24) got Yorkshire home, the winning runs coming from the final delivery!
