Whenever they get someone that can perform name him as captain.
I reckon it takes more than that.
Someone the other day talked of the Australians as the Baggy Green Machine at test level. How many times now have we seen Australian captains whose form has slipped towards the end of their career but the BGM has still supported them in their role?
Cricket is that rare sport where the captain still captains. The BGM supports a captain who shows flair, tactical nous and whose men follow him. Can you imagine where Hussey or Michael Clarke would be if they demanded a certain spot in the batting order?
Can you imagine the selection panel dictating a line-up to Ponting that he didn't approve of?
Yes England need a captain who can perform. But who cares if the centuries are few and far between. As long as he gets the coach and selectors to pick the best team and then leads it with flair and discipline. IMO Vaughan has proved he can do that. I can't see where a few good performances by Strauss or Cook or Bell make them captaincy material without the rest of the package.

I really don't think there is much doubt that Vaughan should be captain if and when he returns to the side.

Who the backup should be is somewhat debatable though. I'd go for Strauss.

The majority thinks Vaughn when he returns, but for the current ashes who do you think should have captained the team?

i think they were right picking flintoff but he defiantly hasnt performed to the selectors, englands expectations

Stumped, just quickly.. something that has been annoying me slightly.

You have post quite a bit about Vaughan in the last week or so which is fine, but if you are going to mention a player so often - and create threads about him - you could do well to spell his name right. Vaughan, not Vaughn.

Strauss > Flintoff.

Flintoff has been guilty of a couple of errors, like having 5 men on the boundary when a new batsman comes in with the score at 89/5

People who have said Andrew Flintoff he hasn't captained a winning England series side, so I think Strauss.

I'd love to see KP captain England and see the whole thing destruct because of his overinflated ego
Your quicker to the mark to make a post about your hero (:p) then it takes Darrell Hair to call a team for ball tampering

I'd like to see Matthew Hoggard bat #4, just to laugh at Ian Chappell once he had what would most definitely be the biggest whinge of all time.

Don't see why people like Monty or Cook shouldn't be captain in 10 years. Cook defiently looks to be the captain make.
