For me, it has to be Dominic Cork (surprise surprise). The guy is an absolute hero to all Derbyshire supporters.
In England, there has always been a feeling that certain counties are 'fashionable' (in the south-east, where the national press reside), and then there are those which are not (Derbyshire, Glamorgan, Leicestershire, Notts etc). Maybe that's because those of us from 'the sticks' have chips on our shoulders, maybe not. If you play for one of the 'favourite' counties, you're in. If not. . . Don't call us. . .
I can't help thinking that if Corky played for Surrey or Essex, he would have made a lot more international appearances than 35 tests and about 15 ODI's.
Previous cricketing heroes :
Bob Taylor (the best wicket-keeper of all time, IMHO, but that's another thread. . .)
Michael Holding
Mike Hendrick
Ian Buxton (only cos he played for Derby County Football Club as well as Derbyshire)
All were Derbyshire players (of varying ability) but hey, I wouldn't be a fan if I liked someone else's players better.
