Why not barrington or HammondOne of Sachin/Hobbs
1. Shorter international playing career than most greats (he didn't make the team until he was right into his batting prime.I am unable to understand why barrington is not considered as a same tier batsman as Hobbs , hutton etc even though his average is ridiculous in so many metrics.
Gary Sobers played in the same era but he does not get penalised for this reason. Point 1 is somewhat valid.1. Shorter international playing career than most greats (he didn't make the team until he was right into his batting prime.
2. Played in a batting friendly era.
3. Some perception issues due to slow scoring, low peer rating, away performances being less visible than home performance in his time.
Ken Barrington is quite similar to Malcom Marshall - An extraordinary record but lacks the longevity.I am unable to understand why barrington is not considered as a same tier batsman as Hobbs , hutton etc even though his average is ridiculous in so many metrics.
Marshall 11 years. Both played full time for 9 years
Maco : 69 Tests. 342 wkts @ 19.8. 22 5-Fers
Ken : 80 Tests. 6754 runs @ 59.7. 20 centuries.
Not really. Sachin had more conditions to succeed in.well, obviously Hobbs.
but Viv is better than Sachin away from home by the way.
from the ones they shared, Viv had the upper hand in Australia/England/Pak, and imo was better in India than Sachin was in West Indies. Not really. Sachin had more conditions to succeed in.
Sachin succeeded in SA, NZ and SL too.from the ones they shared, Viv had the upper hand in Australia/England/Pak, and imo was better in India than Sachin was in West Indies.
Sachin succeeded in sa after 4-5 tours,Sachin succeeded in SA, NZ and SL too.
he didn't do anything in New Zealand and South Africa that I can't see Viv doing, it's 49 and 46.Sachin succeeded in SA, NZ and SL too.
Nah.The more countries you add, the greater the odds of an underperformance. The fact that Tendulkar succeeded against eight teams plus minnows away is more impressive than Viv's more concentrated four countries.he didn't do anything in New Zealand and South Africa that I can't see Viv doing, it's 49 and 46.
Hmmmmmm, Nah, I'd take Viv's superiority in the countries in which they overlap + ATG tours over a few more countries of being good.Nah.The more countries you add, the greater the odds of an underperformance. Well I like you praising Viv so I won't push back.Hmmmmmm, Nah, I'd take Viv's superiority in the countries in which they overlap + ATG tours over a few more countries of being good.
