He was very consistent in Australia and had them as Ashes rivals, very good player of pace bowling. It’s a good debate and as ever it can’t be definitive
must admit I was surprised that Gowers name was top

I remember him well as he debuted in a time I really started to follow cricket and all the statsHe was very consistent in Australia and had them as Ashes rivals, very good player of pace bowling.
I mean he’s the top scorer because he has the most matches and innings of those guys.Top scorer David Gower , why is he not in the selections above ?
or is it all a personal hunch based on favourites and not stats ?
Yeah, fantastic player, just checked, he has the most tours and managed to average 40+ in all of them bar one three match series.I remember him well as he debuted in a time I really started to follow cricket and all the stats
3 in loss, 3 in draw.Noticed that sachin has 6 hundreds in Australia. Curious if any of them happened in a win for India?
Can't really blame Sachin for India's fortunes. But compare that to Imran who's world class performances directly led to Pakistan's wins vs equally strong WI teams.3 in loss, 3 in draw.
Difficult to blame batsmen for draws, and even more difficult to blame them for losses when they score hundreds, unless they're especially or consistently tanking in the 2nd innings.3 in loss, 3 in draw.

What did slightly surprise me was only 1 of those hundreds came against McGrath. Somehow thought there was more from memory.
Yeah it's not his fault the team lost, his knocks at MCG in 92 and 99 are ATG knocks. Can't really blame Sachin for India's fortunes. But compare that to Imran who's world class performances directly led to Pakistan's wins vs equally strong WI teams.
Even after a ATG series, Cook only averaged 40 in ashes.Top 10 tours by overseas Batsmen in Australia in my opinion are
1. Len Hutton in Australia 1950-51
2. Walter Hammond in Australia 1928-29
3. Viv Richards in Australia 1979-80
4. Jack Hobbs in Australia 1911-1912
5. Geoffrey Boycott in Australia 1970-71
6. Aubrey Faulkner in Australia 1910-11
7. Michael Vaughan in Australia 2002-03
8. Alastair Cook in Australia 2010-11
9. Herbert Sutcliffe in Australia 1924-25
10. John Edrich in Australia 1970-71
Cook was weak to genuinely great fast bowling, excellent on flat wickets against pace, and a master against spin.Even after a ATG series, Cook only averaged 40 in ashes.
The 1924/25 ones (the greatest Invincibles)Oh Yeah, Burgey probably saw the Invincibles while going to college.
