I haven't looked at the two sides but IMO any logical rating system means that these two sides would be approximately equal.

Yeah and no. The 75-99 team imo is better and imo has better bench strength. Consider a B side from that era:

I think the balance supplied by Gilchrist makes the second side better. First side only has four bowlers, and if you changed it you'd end up with a weak 6/7 instead.

Only thing I can really use to split them though.

Yeah Kallis’ bowling and Gilchrist’s batting are the two separating factors for me.

Only thing I can really use to split them though.
What about 1st side batting till 11th position? ?
