Assuming you have a median team, which two player combo would you pick for your side?

Ambrose/Lara or McGrath/Ponting

Lillee/Chappell or Hadlee/Crowe

Kapil/Gavaskar or Botham/Boycott

Cummins/Smith or Bumrah/Kohli

Warne/Gilly or Murali/Sanga (with gloves)

Ambrose/Lara : Ambrose is much closer to McGrath for me than Ponting is to Lara.

Lillee/Chappell : Absolutely love Crowe and think this duo is overrated, but still think the gap is sufficient between Greg and Crowe for Hadlee to make up even with batting.

Kapil/Gavaskar : Don't really think the gap between Kapil and Botham is as big as portrayed sometimes. Think he is the better bowler, just. Think Gavaskar's batting gain over Boycott is more than Botham's over Kapil, and then there's Boycott's particular style of play.

Cummins/Smith : Cummins is arguably ahead (or equal) to Bumrah. Kohli is nowhere near Smith.

Murali/Sanga : Murali and Warne is a deadlock, I will go Murali. While Gilchrist is Great at 7, I think Sangakkara batting at 3 will just beat him for your average team; given we don't right off later career Sangakkara. Gilly is the better keeper, but he isn't poor as well.

Ambrose/Lara
Lillee/Chappell
Kapil/Gavaskar
Cummins/Smith
Warne/Gilly

except the last one, these are easy.

The two great ones that's missing are obviously Bradman & O'Reilly and Richards & Marshall.

Hopefully not to be matched against each other.

Why?

Murali & Warne are equal.

WK Bat : Gilly > Sanga
Are they though? Sanga kept exclusively early career for Jayawardene's arrival. If we aren't taking his non keeping average in phase value, we shan't his keeping one too. As a batsman, he is just better and your average team is better off with a no. 3 like him than World's best no 7. Still very close though.

I admit McGrath/Ponting and Ambrose/Lara is very close I just think McGrath would be a more consistent and steady lead pacer in all conditions.

Hadlee being a bat too gives the team options and can compensate for Chappells bigger advantage over Crowe.

Botham is a proper number six and it's a tossup between him and Kapil as bowlers but Botham opens up a space for an extra bat or bowler.

Is Sanga exclusively a batsman or wk batsman?
yeah Sanga was much worse as a wk batter, I know. But in a mid team, I guess I'd be in the need of a spinner who can bowl a lot; which I think Murali could do better. But I'm gonna take Gilly/Warne anyway, Greatest WK bat ever by distance+A spinner equal to (if not better than) Murali.

I'll go a bit different actually.

1. Lara and Ambrose

2. Crowe and Hadlee, Hadlee is plainly a better bowler than Lillee, now Chappell outputs 5 more runs than Crowe on average but Hadlee also outputs 24 runs a inning, his batting makes up volume wise for the Chappel and Crowe gap imo.

3. Botham and Boycott, I think healthy Botham is quite a bit superior to Kapil

4. Cummins, gap between Bumrah and Smith is too much, plus you've Cummins's captaincy and batting, he's arguably more durable than Bumrah too.

5. Warne and Gilly, sorry but this is not remotely close, Sanga was a worse keeper than Gilly and when batting he was also a far worse batter, Warne can also bat and give you 7-8 extra runs, if locked in/forced to bat he can give you near 20 runs I feel like, and is a great slip too.
