What we learned from the 5th Test

But India already had Rahul in their team. England had Pope and Duckett, SA have Rickelton etc. It's pretty rare these days that teams don't have a spare keeper in their side. India definitely benefitted from Pant not having to keep before going out to bat.
But what about those who don't like AUS (in general, don't think Inglis will be a regular) and WI etc?

I’m perfectly ok with a keeper getting a sub like Pant did.

Makes total sense.

You can’t have someone who has never kept wicket properly suddenly keep 90 overs or whatever against proper international standard pace. Could get smashed in the face, would probably sprain all their fingers.
Jimmy Maher has never really kept when he was picked as a backup keeper for the Australian World Cup squad.

Whatever it takes!!!
Pant's injuries have always been a blow for India and having a specialist keeper come in and keep instead of him has not been of much help either. We have always lost one of our best batsman or at least a good percentage of his efficiency given he was injured, and the keepers while serviceable were also not as good as him against fast bowling esp. around the straighter lines.

2021 BGT when Pant batted and Saha kept was a pretty big advantage though

Currently yes but the new idea may include like for like subs which is what I believe Stokes was discussing.
That is also there in today's rules. Teams tell who are the like for likes for all their 11. Its part of the concussion and covid sub protocol.

Saha keeping over Pant is definitely a big advantage while fielding though
TBF I dont think Saha was that good by that time but sure, an upgrade on Pant, but that is no reason to not have a rule which can ensure less chances of players injuring themselves more. And ensure it does not become a 10 V 11 scenario which is never fair.
