What we learned from the 2nd test

Well India dominated and it was the right result a massive thrashing for England

Key points from the 2nd Test

- England's bowling never looked like getting 20 wickets
- Stokes bowling first was just silly
- India can bowl well and has a unit without Bumrah
- Shubman Gill was excellent and perhaps one of the best test matches from a Batsman in ages
- England need to sort a few things out

Whatever it takes!!!
I like how mentally level Jamie Smith seems to be as a batsman. He plays his shots but he also defends or works singles when its not in his hitting range or whatever. He seems to be far more mentally sorted than a Harry Brook even today. I dont know much about his keeping but hopefully he reaches his potential as a batsman, ideally after this series. :p

He goes at it with hard hands though which will cause him problems in India and the SC in general where he'll have to play defense against spin for long periods. Also is a compulsive aerial hooker and will have to rein that in on the Aus tour where the grounds are larger.

Best part about the second Test was how England were made to choke down on their bravado of the last three years ("the more the better") and forced to play for the draw that even they themselves must've known was beyond their capabilities. Truly a noose of their own making. To their dubious credit, they didn't look at any stage like they actually gave a serious damn about drawing the game, so at least they stayed somewhat true to script even in defeat.

So what you are saying is they weren't going for the win or the draw. Hmmmmmmmm interesting. :p Wonder what @Burgey would think of that.

What we have learnt.

1. We really should give more life in the pitch for bowlers. I mean Crawley and Pope have dreadful techniques when the ball rarely moves but you would think Indian upper order batters might struggle a bit more when there is more pace, bounce and sideways movement.

2. Woakes is done. I have admired him a lot as an English conditions bowler. Now of course it is related to no.1 that he has looked innocuous without sideways movement but his pace is down

3. Brook can play responsibly when he puts his mind to it.

4. Tongue might have pace, but he was nowhere near accurate enough over the two tests, rabbit pie or otherwise.
