What new features do you wish they'd put in ICC 2005?

It's no secret many people aren't happy with the lack of changes in the new ICC 2005. It appears to be exactly the same as ICC2002, with the interface crammed onto one page, 20/20 and more youth players.

What features do you wish had been put in? There's too many here for them all to be used, but hopefully some of these can be used for ICC2006, if it ever happens.
I don't want the game to go into Football Manager detail, the simple finances, contracts etc are fine, and don't distract from the important things.

Staff- 2nd team coach, coaches, physio. They should have coaching abilities as well. 2nd team coach runs the 2nd team and monitors the ability of 2nd string players and let you know if someone is improving.

Assign a set club captain and vice-captain, rather than choosing each match.

More mental ability stats- Captaining ability (not the same as experience), Attitude, Consistency, Pressure Handling

More bowling ability stats- Bowling at death, Preferred bowling length,

More battling ability stats- Slogging ability (you can be an aggressive batsman and not hit many 6's),

Player morale, confidence etc

Fielding ability stats- Catching, Throwing, Slip specialist

More kinds of bowler- Swing bowler, Seamer, Short Pitcher

A budget which can change year to year.

Club Committee objectives (promotion, invest in youth etc)

Better training- the budget/training places system now is very flawed. Everyone can train, but the budget will affect how good the training is. Involves coaches from above as well.

Filters- when picking international squad, filter WK's only, openers only, spinners only etc.

*edit* Forgot Wicket-keeper abilitys- Catching, Standing up

ICC2005 has already been released guys
Which is why the title states: "What new features do you wish they'd put in ICC 2005?" - past tense.

surgeklick you say many people arent happy with the lack of changes in icc2005 - i for one am UNhappy with the changes!!! i love icc2002, and what would be wrong with football manager detail? ive never played that game but im sure theres a reason why its so popular

4 features i wish they hadnt TAKEN AWAY

- figures on the players form graphs - they are useless now, you can't tell if a bowlers taken 4/10 or 4/200, unless you look through the fixtures (painfull) which you can't do during a match

- player photos - i used to give all my generated players photos as well. it added to the realism. if empire couldnt get the contracts whatever they still could have put the blank heads there for us to replace

- a smally but there are no balls faced info for the batsmen and no balls bowled stats for bowlers on the in-game commentary page

- in the selection screen you can no longer view the oppositions squad. this particularly sucks when you are an international side playing a touring team as there is now way to view their squad whatsoever until the toss screen

why take these 4 things away i dont know? this along with not having up-to-date stats like every other ICC/ACC did when they were released or correct teams in the World Cup... supposedly an update, but theyre going backwards. gee, they may as well have gone back to ICC1 style and make all bowlers bowl over the wicket and no choice of length.

also not so sure on this because i havent got very far into the game but spinners still seem to bag wickets? what i have noticed though is when playing with Australia i cannot get less than 500 when batting - its just so easy, and it seems easier to bat more aggressively too? anyone else notice this?

features i wish theyd put in. surgeklick i agree with most of those features you listed
...in order of importance...

- all overseas players to play first-class cricket each year (for mine the most frustrating part of icc when playing as a test nation, very hard to determine how good a player is if they dont play cricket each year!)

- ability to replace overseas player while hes away

- better AI - nothing more unrealist than a player blocking during the last over of a ODI or a twenty20 for that matter - this is where a slog feature would help

- while im on AI, at least for the start of the game, Test sides should have been similar to what they are right now - England immediately choose J Troughton & M Davies (RMF) in their test sides, this is something that should have been picked up in testing VERY easily.

- ability to replace an injured player when on tour

- Wicket Keeper ability ratings

- a better World Player Ranking system - at the moment i think players from lower ranked teams are favoured too much - it also could have been pretty easy to have the rankings up-to-date as at the time in the game (1 April 2005) rather than it being blank

- filter system as surgeclick said for picking squads, also choice of order - alphabetical, averages high to low, runs/wkts high to low, age, team

- ability to see balls faced and partnership info in the fixtures screens

- balls faced and minutes in the partnerships screen

- players who only play one type of game (eg. an OD or Test-only player - Australia choose J Langer in their ODIs, while im sure he would be great, once again its not realistic

- ability to see age listed in the player records so you dont have to click on that player

- ability to change the age, only slightly, of a youth squad player so you can rename that player as yourself and give him your date of birth (maybe max. of 1 year difference either way) also change details like RM to LFM or LHB to RHB

- players with 2 different styles of bowling like A Symonds

- ability to choose venues for the upcoming test series

- somewhere to view the final results of your previous test and odi series in chronological order
eg 5-0 v ENG (away) 2005
3-0 v WI (home) 2005/06
1-2 v ZIM (home) 2006
- Hall Of Fame - all-time records that can be broken like Lara's 501 and 400 or Healy's dismissal record, as well as records since 2005 eg most runs since 2005 or best bowl avg since 2005. more extensive records (eg highest scores & best bowling at each ground, team winning streaks)

- fixing records - icc2002 had NZ's bowling record for innings and match reversed
innings - 15/132 R Hadlee
match - 9/52 R Hadlee
AUS 9th wicket pship record between Blackham & Gregory - v England 1994? the year is wrong not sure what the correct one is - this was in icc2002 too

these still havent been fixed

- all teams having captains nominated

so the positive changes - World Cup every 4 years, (does anyone know if it changes venues each time??) Domestic option in the player records screen, more tour matches and ability to view them all, better main screen layout, twenty20 cricket, England contracted players

as you can see i love the icc series. thats all for now 8-)

The confusion probably arose because "they'd" can mean "they would" or "they had".

I must admit I interpreted your post wrongly also! 8-)

After a few days of play, here are my suggested improvements:
- ODI records, not just Test records
- More records eg. most runs in a series, most capped player, top ten run scorers/wicket takers for every side and overall.
- The ability to play against different touring sides eg. not always NSW and VIC playing the visitors
- World dramas - Zimbabwe dispute, more teams entering, franchises like in RSA, sponsorships in order to get more money to improve the squad
- Season ending injuries and possibly, career endings injuries.
- Retirements from internationals only
- I agree with player morale and more control on contracts such as if a player is unhappy at a certain team, they can nominate for end of season transfers
- Ability changes - this means that players like Symonds (AUS) can bowl RM or OS. Also some players are regarded as all-rounders in ODs but batsman/bowlers in FC/Tests.
- Keeper abilities - we can only rate keepers on batting skill and how many dismissals they make.

All in all, more variables to make the game more enticing.

One thing thats been bugging me is they've taken out the venue for tests, only viewable on the toss screen, i always forget to look then!

Couldn't agree more. Worcestershire are now basically "Flyford Flavell CC" with all my mates (and myself) in the side. Whenever I get a good new youngster, I pick an appropriate player and stick his mug in the game. It adds a dimension or realism. Used to build a world XI when ICC2002 servers were up (Had Both, Immy, Alan Border etc) added my own photos - again , this really increased my involvement in the game.

Spot on. It gets that after 10 or 15 years the Test games can be used to improve confidence for your younger batsmen, you send them in to knock up a few easy hundreds (India seem the hardest nation long term - probably because they play a couple of spinners - who also become "super spinners" DOH)

pearljammonkey said:

This is not that good is it. I mean in a OD or ODI - if you don't get the runs you lose regardless of wickets.

Yet time and time again you see a batsman block out the last over.

Had a number 5 batter not take 4 singles in a row in the last over of a OD game to protect the number 10 at the other end. Took a single off the 5th ball, then the number 10 blocked the last ball of the over. It's been like this since ICC in 1998. Surely they ould have sorted this one out by now!

Again, go back far enough, and a rudimentary filter was in (i think it was in ICC - might have been in ICC2 as well) Another feature I was suprised has been removed

pearljammonkey said:

Again. Great. it's more common than you think. Seen Graeme Hick bowl at nearly 80 MPH in 2003. Sobers, Botham, Marshall, all occaisionally bowled differently (Botham had a leg spinner variety, Marshall often cut his pace to MF to get swing and cut - Sobers bowled the lot !!)

Also players changing completely as a result of practice / injury / or just realising they were much better suited to another aspect of the game. Below is a list of recent players - and what they started as (I don't just mean had a go at - I mean the predominant skill and reason for playing)

Craig White - Off spinner
Graeme Hick - Off Spinner
Angus Fraser - Opening bat
Michael Vaughan used to be a batsman who could catch. (might be some old black and white footage of that somewhere  sorry Mike)
Matthew Hoggard Out and out pace bowler
Jimmy Adams - Wicket Keeper

and lots more

More subtely, many players just go from fast to fast medium to medium fast as time goes on. Or from defensive to attacking (Chris Tavare)

I love the series, but I've been hoping for some change in some of these (seemingly fundamental things) since it began - I don't expect many of them to ever materialise now.

Another thing could be players dropping speed with age, the vast majority of pace bowlers slow down as time passes, some change to spin (remember phil defrietas has done taht on occasions, span it as a match has progressed, certainly against recent 'We can bat for 17 days but we need twice as long to bowl' Lancashire teams

Agree, sort of what i meant by my penultimate comment. It would make it more realistic again.

One day a new game will come.....I mean a COMPLETELY new game..

One day ....

How about actually being able to check the dates of the test match, on the squad selection screen.
When you've reached the squad selection screen and you see that a player is injured, you've got no idea whether or not to take him on tour if you haven't made a mental note of when it is. Especially as selection is some time b4 the first test.

I'm about to start my 2nd year at uni, doing a computer games programming course. For my 3rd year project I'm choosing between making a cricket manager sim, or a boxing manager sim. I might be borrowing some of these ideas!
