I think its pretty esay to judge that the 1988 squad was the most productive in terms of providing the future superstars.

The 2000 squad was supposed to be our golden generation but it always flattered to decieve and its 'future superstars' massivley underperformed when they had their chances for the senior team. This 2008 squad is somewhat similar to the 2000 squad in terms of hype and potential so here is hoping the history does not repeat itself.

Recognise about five/ten more names out of these.

clearly 1988 ruled, however 1998 wasn't bad either so i am hoping the 2008 will follow suit....

Cheers Perm. Man we pick a lot of players who don't develop into any more then fringe first class performers..

Only 1 Test for Australia in 4 Squads.

The season that Watson, Clarke, White, Haurtiz played U19s was the best Aus U19 in recent years, but they didn't play in WC. Most countries pick players on potential so you get a few 18 year olds play in the WC that are probably not ready, but end up playing Tests or ODIs. But Australia have always preferred to pick a more mature 19 yo, so the World Cup squads don't look that great.

Guys marked with a * are those who I had to research to find out who the heck they were. The 1988 squad looks incredible with hindsight. 1998 has the most no-marks... and won the tournament. That should tell you everything about what to read into this competition...

Pretty every single player has played from 1998 to 2002 atleast Sri Lanka A btw, which is quite funny if you ask me. Most of the guys in 2004 and 2006 are regulars in their respective FC sides. 2000 seen as best squad ever, even with Muburak.

looking at all the squads the 1988 Pakistan team really does look incredible...

anybody else feel that most of the success stories have been batsmen?

Yeah most bowlers don't mature until a bit later, also a lot of them get overlooked for bowling all rounders.
